I agree Lubo. He's strong, good in the air, reads the game well, is good on the ball and can pick a pass. I would have had him ahead of Mings and Coady and not because of his connection with us.
Super player and underrated by the experts because he plays for Brighton.
Will end up playing Champions League Football for someone.
Really pleased for him, outstanding defender.
I also hope this is because Southgate has realised he's dropped one picking Mings. Total liability.
Was chuffed to bits when this was announced - looked very comfortable last night in an England shirt.
Did you hear the Leeds Fans at the Riverside shouting for Patrick?

Ha ha, good comment! He really doesn't care about Ben White, but care's enough to tell us!
He should have been in over Mings to begin with but I wouldn't have put him in ahead of Ward-Prowse personally.
Fantastic news. Massive Ben White fan. Agree that Southgate got it wrong not having him in prior. But he's there now. And for me, he starts. Classy, intelligent player. Looks like a Maldini-type to me. Would think post tournament he'll find himself at a top club.

Would he be on your shopping list, or has that ship sailed?
He'd be on mine for sure.
But, I doubt he'd be on the club's.

I agree. If he gets game time and does well at the Euros, his price will rise to £30 million plus. I think we're better spending that kind of money in other positions.
Very happy for him. Should have happened months ago. Far better player than Mings.
Would have him at Leeds over what we have now. But financially would be crazy to sign him.
Great lad - no one deserves it more. But We don’t need him at Leeds any longer - we’ve got a defence that looked assured by the end of the season. Any money at the back should be spent on a LB.
Euros-wise, with so many Leeds (and ex-Leeds) players in action, it’s gonna be a cracker.
so in an initial squad that had 4 RBs and 4 Cbs, we lose a RB and he adds a CB This when we have just 5 CMs with Henderson not played in months, Rice and Phillips just back from injury and Bellingham a 17 Yr old rookie. Mount the only creative one amongst them.
I bet Ben Whites doesn't play a single minute while.the likelihood of needing more options in CM are high.
He's a classy player. He waltzed through the Championship with us, I don't remember a time where he struggled. So composed.
I see him as the replacement to Stones though, I don't think that those two playing together would work as they are similar.
It's gonna be a back 3 surely, like the World Cup.

Ward-Prowse is DM, surely the answer is not to have selected Henderson who has never really cut the mustard for England and hasn't played for ages and bring in Ward-Prowse, we could all see his value against Romania, not sure about Henderson's value.
I would have had White in the squad from the start.
Just shows Southgate has a tendency to favour certain players.

Mount, Phillips, Rice and Bellingham (and Southgate's dodgy mate) are an embarrassment of riches but if the choice is between Ward-Prowse who can only play DM or White who can and has played LCB, RCB, DM and RB, surely White is the better value.

This thread is about positivity directed to a former player and fans favourite. If all you can do is contribute negativity to it then refrain from contributing at all. Ta.
as midfielders we have 2 who play the holding role or 4; Rice & Phillips, 2 who are deeper midfielders or 6 but not holding in Henderson & Bellingham. JWP would be third choice as a 6.
Mount can play as a central midfielder as an 8. Bellingham could also be used as an 8. Phillips & Rice can both be used as a 6.
For 2 positions we have plenty of options.
At CB we only really have Maguire, Stones, Mings, Coady who can play in a 2. I think there are bigger doubts about the ability of Coady & Mings, obviously the injury to Maguire adds to this. Although same can be said about Henderson.
I think JWP is unlucky to miss out. He was excellent yesterday. But in the end we needed a CB more than we needed a 6.
Wouldn't be surprised to see White force his way into the starting lineup if Maguire doesn't get fit soon.

I'd agree if it were a 23 man squad, utility players are.needed but 5 CBs and Walker play as a 6th. With the injured.midfield.its a massive risk and a more defensive choice. Yay! Defensive southgate

you are making a case for a 5th CB when Southgate is replacing a RB/RWB. If CB was such a concern then why take 4 RBs in the first instance.
To me it highlights that 1. Southgate didnt want to make an unpopular decision at RB and 2. Is very defensively minded.
