My problem isn't so much that it is taking a long time to appoint someone, it's that there is absolutely no evidence of a plan or strategy from Levy.
==========
Though on the face of it, it feels that way - a lot of the issues in attracting the top names from the list were down to 3 things:
1. Those managers have a contract already or have had contracts extended (Ten Hag/Poch)
2. The one on the top of the list who was without contract, has asked for what Levy considers to be unacceptable demand:
ie Conte wanted all his staff, 7 of them to be included in the discussion which would raise the £15.5m package on the table by another £3.5m
3. Conte wants guarantees that Kane won't be sold and deadwoods removed
The club has now hired Paratici to take of this point.
I think Conte deal isn't totally dead in the water.
Levy isn't phased by taking his time at the cost to the club missing out on pre-season training with a manager in place.
There is a added pressure from the fans this time, to get the manager role correct, ie someone fans would accept and someone who has the brand of attacking football in his coaching mantra.
It is possible the club is still in negotiations with the top 2 choices.
It is difficult to guage because traditionally Spurs have been a club that doesn't divulge information willingly.
I think there was a strategy as Levy pointed out in his end of season statement with the DNA stuff but when Conte became available he had to pursue him due to him winning 5 titles in the last 7 seasons.
Say he appointed Ten Hag whilst Conte was available. I'm sure our fans would have questioned why Conte was not approached? Yes I am trying to be kind to Levy here as I would have been very happy with Ten Hag regardless of Conte because we do not have a good team who need two or three players to challenge for the title. We need to shift 7 or 8 and bring in at least 5 or 6 top players to even break into the top 4.
We were going to be a work in progress team but the longer Levy or the DoF take to hire someone the more we are going to fall behind. Had he been strong and believed in his own statement and hired Ten Hag(If the opportunity was ever there) we would not be in this pickle. Yes next season feels like a write off already. Happy Fecking Days.

I agree with most of what you say, but I'm not sure that Spurs fans would have been clamoring for Conte. I'd say that 90% of us would have heard that he's available but would have felt that he wouldn't be the right fit for us...or, more accurately, we wouldn't be the right fit for him. It's only when talk of Spurs approaching him that we all got excited. That was a waste of time, focus and energy by Levy in my opinion.

Agreed but I also think from Levy's POV, hiring Conte would have given him a better chance of keeping Kane. Hiring anyone else would have meant conceding that Kane would leave which he will do now anyway. Great lol. Such a banter club.
I honestly think Levy would be happy to sacrifice 10 points at the start of the season by delaying strategy, letting others get transfers done ahead of us and having the club as an unstable mess going into the new season if it meant dragging out this search saved him a couple of million quid in wages and not having to commit to a transfer budget..... the guy is pathetic

Conte may not be the right choice for Spurs or vice versa but we HAD to explore that option, therefore it is not a waste of time holding discussions with THE pedigree manager available, and on a free. Levy would have failed if he had not at least held discussions.
Right now patience is needed. A DoF is coming in and that is probably more important at this stage in the season when actually very little happens but planning needs to start. The DoF will have oversight on all transfers etc & can be working on that already, manager or no manager.

Fair point but worth noting Liverpool, Leicester and Villa have all made signings in the past 7 days that would have been good signings for Spurs. While the DOF can plan all he likes, the manager has to want certain players and his input is critical to overall strategy
Problem we have is waiting for a manger to come in we have no idea whom they will want or whom they want to sell.

very negative. but probably the most likely scenario i've seen on here.
Levy balked at Conte`s demands, that much is clear, and in doing so he has made clear the level of ambition he has for Spurs on the pitch, wish is below where we all want it to be.
Seriously, what is the point of Spurs under ENIC, when all they want is a place in the CL, Levy will even sack a highly decorated manager on the eve of a cup final to save himself a few quid, that should tell us all where their priorities lie.
I just wish the fans would start voting with their feet, and stop turning up to games, that is the only thing that will make ENIC take notice, a half empty stadium will hit them where it hurts.
Unfortunately we still have plenty of fans who are happy to be mugged off.

It feels inevitable that Kane will go and any money raised from him will be put forward a rebuild. Problem is, you need a DoF and manager in place to assess the squad and agree on what that rebuild needs to look like, otherwise it’ll be a scattergun approach and that budget will be wasted. These delays are minimizing our opportunities to do this. And yes, settled clubs in and around us like Villa and Leicester are making solid signings and preparing for 21/22 already. Next season does already feel like a write off, like we will just fall further behind - low expectations and mediocrity written off as ‘transition’.
Failing to refresh the squad for 18 months, then sacking Poch and replacing him with Jose were two catastrophic footballing decisions made by Levy that have cost us massively and that will continue to cost us for years to come, with all the good work done at the club between 2014 and 2018 unravelling at a rate of knots.
For me, all the goodwill is gone. I was livid when Poch was sacked, hated the Jose appointment as well. I’ve been angry at the club ever since, and all Levy has managed to do since then is make me angrier still with his continued errors of judgement - to the point now where I have very little love left for the club. I’ve never felt this apathetic about THFC. I expect - demand - better from the club. I don’t expect us to win the PL or CL (the fact Poch took us to runners up in both was a huge achievement), but with the highest ticket prices in the land I do expect us to win domestic cup comps, or even the EL. I expect the team to play good football and promote youth, I expect the hierarchy to have a strategy, a vision and not lurch from one model to another hoping to get lucky, and I certainly do not expect THFC to try to sell the rest of the English football pyramid down the river by signing up to something as elitist as the ESL.
Our current situation is absolutely unacceptable. I won’t be renewing my membership or taking my lads to any games this season, I’m too angry at the club to set foot in the stadium or put a penny into Levy/Lewis’s pockets.
----------------------------------------------------------------------
This is exactly how I feel too.
The state the club is in is as unacceptable as it was avoidable.
There is no way I’ll be paying the highest ticket prices in the country next year for a season the has already been written off in my view.
Disgraceful from Daniel levy. I’m gutted at the mess spurs are, they were so close to being big time a few years back. Incompetence by Daniel levy has destroyed that.
I honestly think we are in danger of a relegation scrap next season if we do not sort this mess out soon.
Ryan Mason is 33/1 to be the next permanent Spurs boss, worth a fiver of anybodies money that.

Why did we HAVE to explore that option? For me, that policy is everything that is currently wrong with the club. If we had a clear plan then Conte wouldn't have even been considered, or shouldn't have been. If our plan is to build again slowly, promote youth, play attractive football etc then we have to look for managers that fit that profile, not just go for the next available big name. It's fantasy football doing it that way. I don't understand all those clamouring for Conte. As good as he is, he will not work with our current ownership. We all know it.
The fact that we've jumped from Poch to Conte says everything about the flip flop policy of Levy. We don't have a plan. We just react.
I really don't know why people say Levy "had" to go for Conte. I don't see any Spurs fans clamoring for Levy to appoint Zidane. Why? because we all know it's not realistic.

Zidane has only had success at Madrid, he’s not proven much elsewhere.
I can only image Zidane will only go for jobs that he has a emotional reason to.
Madrid, Juventus and France because of his playing history and PSG because of them being a massive French club.
I can’t see him having any interest in other clubs.

Wow! that's the understatement of the year!
three consecutive champions leagues (as well as league titles)!
It has all gone noticeably rather quiet on Spurs` new manager hunt since the season ticket deadline has passed, strange that.

What a ridiculous decision it was to sack Jose 6 days before a final and so close to the end of the season without a replacement sorted.
He may not have been popular with many or here but I'm sure we would have given City a.game and finished 6th had we kept him for a little bit longer. Best of all we wouldn't have had Winks anywhere near the starting eleven.
The whole thing has been handled in such an amateur way that I'm struggling to care who we get.

There are rumours that if he'd won, Jose would have been entitled to a big payout for delivering success. The fact that the CL money was off the table meant Levy knew he couldn't afford to allow that to happen so pulled the trigger.
That and rumours that he knew he was going and was telling Kane and other big players to move on too.

Yes, I heard that Levy was worried that he couldn't be seen to be sacking him if we won the lc.
Only Spurs could bin off a manager through fear of him winning a trophy.

----------------------------------------------------------------------
Conte may not be the right choice for Spurs or vice versa but we HAD to explore that option, therefore it is not a waste of time holding discussions with THE pedigree manager available, and on a free. Levy would have failed if he had not at least held discussions.
Right now patience is needed. A DoF is coming in and that is probably more important at this stage in the season when actually very little happens but planning needs to start. The DoF will have oversight on all transfers etc & can be working on that already, manager or no manager.
----------------------------------------------------------------------
Fair point but worth noting Liverpool, Leicester and Villa have all made signings in the past 7 days that would have been good signings for Spurs. While the DOF can plan all he likes, the manager has to want certain players and his input is critical to overall strategy

Problem we have is waiting for a manger to come in we have no idea whom they will want or whom they want to sell.

----------------------------------------------------------------------
very negative. but probably the most likely scenario i've seen on here.

----------------------------------------------------------------------
I agree with most of what you say, but I'm not sure that Spurs fans would have been clamoring for Conte. I'd say that 90% of us would have heard that he's available but would have felt that he wouldn't be the right fit for us...or, more accurately, we wouldn't be the right fit for him.
