If he doesn't tell his team to go and win the game then he should not be in charge of the country imo. If you don't play to win every game, why should you even be in the job in the first place?

Risking not winning means they could lose, which would mean third, and possible match ups against:

Holland
Belgium
Winners Group E

Southgate is nowhere near good enough to manage a squad tactically. He has the best squad any England manager has had at a tournament and look what he has given us so far!!

We'll need to beat the other big guns at some point. Deliberately dodging them makes us look weak.

100% this.

FFS qualified already by scoring one goal, we need to start attacking teams, but with Southgate in charge it's all about "damage limitation", he makes me puke.

Wembley factor is huge. Win group is the must.

Especially as there will be 40,000 at the knockout games.

A great team performance and result is necessary for instilling confidence and shutting up the detractors.
So much negativity was invited after the last match, all indications are there for a solid England win tonight.

Are there solid indicators there for a win tonight? We've had a good opening 20 minutes against Croatia and that's about it.

I remember when people were saying the Austria and Romania friendlies were no reflection as we expected things to change, but they haven't. Its like watching dead rubber games with England at the moment.

Based on where other teams are in the groups at the moment, winning the group would mean Germany at Wembley in the next round, with the winner taking on the winner of Sweden vs Ukraine in Rome. The semi would be one of Netherlands, Croatia, Wales, Denmark at Wembley .

Second would mean Spain then France away from Wembley, then likely one of Italy, Belgium or Portugal in the semi.

It might not play out like this of course, but one route looks infinitely better than the other

The only ones out of those possibilities who we would beat are Sweden and possibly Poland - we’ll probably lose against the others…including Hungry

Been southgates plan all along. Play crap in the group stages to get second then come out swinging playing total football in the knockouts taking us to the final

We need a performance as we have been pretty unremarkable to date.
Go out tonight and have a cracking performance and then take that positive energy into the next game no matter who we play

From what we've seen so far and his team selections, it doesn't matter who we play. He'll be even more defensive against 'The Big Boys'. Absolute dreary dullard data entry manager.

Win the group, hope we get lucky against the Germans and from there we are gonna have a huge shout to make the final.

I fully expect us to lose in the round of 16 though.

One way or another, England will meet one these teams, and get beaten badly.
May as well be sooner rather than later. 🙂

I’d definitely prefer later

Just as a matter of interest ,the people I talk to in Spain and Germany ,on a daily basis, do NOT want to meet England .they are of the opinion that England are THE team to beat !...........so there !

Which is exactly why we should try and win the group, especially playing at home most of the time.

Be good fun watching us attack the Czechs with 3 DM's and 4 right backs tho.
