I didn't get why we brought Henderson on?

get him minutes? minutes for what? hes arguably our most useless mf in the squad.

he plays club football for a team that just uses carthorses in mf and tends to go long to rapid wide forwards. clearly not the way Southgate wants to play

World class players aren't the issue. If they were, Poland would be much better than they are.

Wjatbwe do have is enough good players to make a better team than most, but we need a manager that can utilise them all.

Yes to give him minutes.

We are a better team than most though. We've won none of our last ten conceding one goal or something.

for what though? as a dm?

philips and rice are fitter, younger and better technical players than him

clearly hes not in the team to contribute anything other than breaking up play which his wrong side of 30 body clearly cant cope with any more.

8 goals in 160 games and 12 odd assists in the same time frame means if he cant get around any more its time for him to move on.

England have the best attacking options in Europe in my opinion. Remains to be seen though how your defense and CM holds up against the better teams.

I'd trade DCL, Rashford and Sancho for just Mbappe right now and go with a 23 man squad.

youre kinda answering your own OP if you think he should be getting minutes ahead of say Bellingham right now

as a nation we cling to 'names' and the fact they are part of good teams whose real quality is derived from their foreign imports

thats the issue with the overhyping of the English team every time

go back to the 2006 World Cup

John Terry played his best football next Carvalho, Rio next to vidic, Lampard with makele and Essien covering his runs, Gerrard with Xabi Alonso, Rooney with Ronaldo etc

suddenly they are expected to play with each other without these truly world class players next to them.

henderson is a case in point right now

Wow. You'd trade bench warmers for one of the best forwards in the world? Which team wouldn't do that?

I agree about playing players into fitness, it makes sense as they are club captains of big clubs through the spine of the side and you can't really ever dismiss how valuable that is.

I don't agree with the Rice Phillips partnership though, surely we haven't conceded many but we've never really looks very good against average sides. In these games we should have been using more attack minded players to build some confidence and momentum IMO.

It just screams classic England to me, on paper things look good and you could probably have enough there to get excited about but it ends up being flat and disappointing. I put that down to Southgate.

It's okay to be pragmatic but I feel like being pragmatic is playing to our strengths, whereas we're trying to nullify our weaknesses and nullifying our own strengths in the process

Might just be he’s embedding the Rice Phillips midfield for when we do play those better teams though and given it’s a new set up, it’s been worth persevering with that through out all the games.

Full backs really is the key area. That and Kane has to start playing.

Which I appreciate to a certain point, I just think we should try and be more positive regardless of opposition

Personally I think Mount works hard enough to play in a deeper role yet still offer a more positive threat

You should visit a United match thread sometime

95% of the players are unfit to wear the shirt but the manager is a clown for not winning the treble with them

Out of your mind.
Levy would do that in a second...
but Pochettino...no way!

1) The results are remembered , almost never the manner how.

2) Club loyalty and dislike of rival club's players in the national team prevails in England at a greater level than elsewhere.

3) Winning the WC in 1966 was a poisoned chalice, as fans expectations were that England should win every competition played in thereafter....and therefore experienced much disappointment as a result.

4) Reaching a semi final of a knock out tournament is already a great achievement for any team no matter how good they supposedly are.

5) England are ranked 3rd in Europe and 4th best team in the world. This ranking should speak more about Southgate's and the team's ranking than one off matches.
England fans therefore can reasonably expect a semi final appearance for the national team.

Southgate has achieved his target of topping the table and his team conceding zero goals. His employers will be more than satisfied with this.

The detractors on this and other media "don't know what they are talking about".

Although there have been rare moments when we’ve looked like a football team, most of the tournament so far we’ve been crap.

You have to hope that we can up the tempo for the knock out stages? I hope the plan isn’t to trust ourselves on penalties

Engjand are rubbish, but they are lucky they are playing by the looks of it every game at Wembley, where they usually win. If they had to travel, they probably would not have got out of the group. They were also lucky they played Croatia on an off day, I watched their game rather than England, and they were superb in beating Scotland.

England`s weak links are the goalkeeper and central midfield, Pickford is a liability and Rice, Phillips and Henderson are just not good enough technically, as soon as we face a quality opponent they will be found wanting.
