Who said we’re elite at footy? I don’t think I’ve mentioned that once. I for sure don’t think we’re elite. Again this seems a popular sound bite made up by people out of touch.
Are you okay? When have I said how great we are? You’ve had a nightmare here lol . Just because I don’t think we’re tragically bad as some people allude to then I think we’re elite and great? You need to learn how to converse my friend.
I don’t think an accurate comparison is multiplying by the international tournaments by club campaigns. It would have to be proportional representation in terms of % of overall winners.
I still like the Ipswich comparison though, successful in the 60s and some more minor successes a few decades later - similar to England. Plus there’s an Alf Ramsey and Sir Bobby link as well.
They are a $hite Spain…another country who won 1 trophy back in the 60s, then won fck all for near on 50 years
Spain of course, went on to dominate world and European Football for a period in then 2000s, when their club teams were regularly competing well in Europe and their league was seen as one of the best in the world
England on the other hand…..just $hite
Yeah if I get your meaning a good comparison would be we have won the World Cup or euros once out of 36 tournaments.
There’s been around 140 top flight seasons.
1/36 x 140 = 3.88.
So basically 4.
We are Newcastle of Sheffield Wednesday lol

Na not really the same. We are still in the top 10 most successful international countries in the world when it comes to footy and we are spread out across lots of different sports.
When it comes to team sports is there even any other side that has won the cricket, football and rugby World Cup?
----------------------------------------------------------------------
Bit unfair that one, the decent cricket nations are piish at football
----------------------------------------------------------------------
Why is that unfair? That’s exactly my point. There’s not a country as successful as us at different sports. It’s actually quite an achievement
----------------------------------------------------------------------
The sports you listed perhaps, but those aren't the main ones in lots of countries.
----------------------------------------------------------------------
Football and cricket are by far the most popular sports in the world.
We are by far the most rounded sporting nation on the planet.
----------------------------------------------------------------------
Cricket is only popular in the commonwealth countries.
Other countries are spread out too across sports, it just might not be the same sports is the point and I’m not sure people can say that we’re the most spread out. Just because Australia play Aussie rules more than football doesn’t mean they’re less spread out for example.
Australia’s main sports are Cricket and Rugby
They have won the cricket World Cup 5 times…England , once
They have won the Rugby World Cup twice…..England once
The population of Australia is about half of England
Sorry, not buying your “well rounded argument” mate…..England’s main sport is football, and they have only won the World Cup once….are you seriously trying to say that’s because your talent is split between other sports…tosh
Here’s my guess why England have only won the World Cup once……you don’t export players anywhere near often enough…all the best countries in the world that have won international trophies in modern times have key players plying their trade all around Europe
England have about 2 players from a league other than the premier league in their ranks
Who are Scotland? West Ham?

Seem very emotional about the whole thing. Chip on your shoulder? Still doesn’t make my points any less valid.
We have won world cups in the 3 most competitive sports in the world. Australia have not. Even then well done Australia. I’m happy for you.
I think it’s a younger generation thing, either that or just ignorance, England having a winner in 3 main sports. As well as doing boxing, formula 1, doing well in olympics as part of Britain etc. It’s not to be sniffed out. Do I think we’re elite ? No, but we’re definitely not some absolute failures.
What Australia have done is also impressive when it comes to rugby and cricket.
This younger generation have to put one thing down to praise another, similar to ronaldo v messi debates when both are great. Bloody kids. Can’t just enjoy.
I know...but apparently people like it.
“ We have won world cups in the 3 most competitive sports in the world”
You are having a laugh aren’t you
You are calling a sport that stops for tea and sometimes declares games a draw when it rains…one of the most competitive sports in the world?
Seriously?
Should also be pointed out, that of the two heralded competitions that you have won, two of them were won on home soil, so again, plays into the whole argument that you don’t travel all that well
If England had made the final of a major tournament at any point of the last 50 odd years, I’d be slightly more inclined to give them a bit more credit and count them amongst the big footballing nations…..but you haven’t, the best you’ve done is 3 semi finals
The team you play today, in total, have a record of reaching 14 major finals and have won 4 world cups and 3 Euros….England’s record doesn’t even come close to that…so for a country that you say is a major sporting nation, their record in their number one sport really is pretty abysmal, and no amount of talking about cricket or rugby makes any difference to that
two of them were won on home soil, so again, plays into the whole argument that you don’t travel all that well - does that not mean we won them them? And who was arguing about us not travelling well? Nobody has mentioned that once on this thread.
Also when did I say were a major sporting nation? Although we are, I think your jibe was meant to say elite sporting nation or successful. Nobody asked for your credit either. I’m not sure who you’re arguing with really,
Everything I’ve said are facts. Seems your upset that England are not as successful as Brazil.
Be interested to see what you think are the most competitive sports then?
Football, rugby and cricket are in my mind probably the most worldwide sports thst have the most money pumped into them, the most training resources, the most people who play them. The level of quality within their sports is high as so many people do not make it.
In comparison to say handball where i doubt many kids play that at all globally.
Everything I have said is fact as well
You say you are the most rounded sporting nation in the world…by far
I say….that if your country is such a sporting giant across the entire spectrum….why is that in their number one sport, the sport that they should be the most successful at or at least have a good record in……they have only ever reached the final of any major tournament in that sport, at world or European level…..once, with home advantage?
Doesn’t really add up that for me
