Battle of the CBs...

If that’s our starting CB’s against City then we needn’t bother turning up.

The other one we are now being linked with is Maxene Lacroix. I think he and Milenkovic alongside Rodon/Tanganga/Sanchez would see us right for years to come

Milenkovic looks a real great defender, but will be an adapting to the speed of the league period for him if he were to join.

I'm really not too bothered about what the opening game will look like, even the opening couple of months, I doubt you will be able to read into much until after the first period of the season has gone.

The way I see it, I don't see us finishing above any of City, Liverpool, Utd or Chelsea in 21/22, so we might as well use this season to get in some young talent to compliment what we already have, that Nuno can work with and drill into them how he wants them to play.

Hopefully this time next year one or more of Pep/Klopp/Tuchel will be gone, Ole won't have done enough for Utd's liking, and at least a couple of those teams won't look as insurmountable as they do now, and if we've prepared properly, a good 2022/23 season could see us back in the CL. Sorry if this sounds defeatist, just the way I see it.

Back to the article, for the reasons above, definitely no Vestegaard (not mentioned but has been linked in the media). Clumsy, slow, 29 already. I'd be up for Lacroix and, personally, Tapsoba, if there was any chance. If not, Andersen. Kounde I can't see, but would obviously be a good signing too.

Lacroix looks like a right unit. He looks like he could a job off the back of his youtube vid lol. Hope Nuno uses Toby with Rodon in the first couple of games.

Was wondering yday how much time Kane and PEH will need off after the Euros too? I wouldn't be fussed if both missed the first two games of the season to give them ample rest and some sort of pre season.

I definitely see us signing one defender with prem experience. We should secure Andersen as I think he is the easiest to get. Coady, Mings, Tarkowski etc will be extortionate. English Tax like Ben White.

I won't be too upset with Vestergaard but Andersen might be a better option for ball playing CB

Agreed on Anderson. He is an instant upgrade on Dier at the very least.

Tapsoba and Kounde would be the dream pair we could bring in for me

Lacroix and Tomiyasu a very good, more realistic alternative.

will we need to be looking one homegrown player though if we sign one or two and end up lumbered still with Sanchez and Dier by end of the window?

prem experience doesnt mean anything if theyre average

Agreed but i don't think Andersen or Vestegaard are average.

we'd need to be set on a back three if we went for Coady if the deal was good then id be for that.

Wolves will ask for too much where it wouldnt be worth it though.

Andersen i find hard to judge playing for Fulham, looks a good defender and on the ball. Criticism for him is being slow on turn etc but i very much doubt our line will be that high.

Defending is about units not stars...Hungary at Euros was case in point.

Plus look at West Hams CBs. Looked a far better defensive unit than our overpaid divas

Lacroix and Kounde are literally stars at champions league sides

Dunno how they could be Europa league signings when that's the case

posted on 9/7/21

Ironically Europa league is still a step up from where we are.

Realism needs to step in

Also helps when you have DM like Rice playing with Soucek ahead of them mopping everything up.

Badly need an out and out DM this window before we even think about making the top 6 again.

I think its also to do with our lack of ball retention. A midfield trio of Hojbjerg Ndombele and Lo Celso if coached properly should dominate the ball. I don’t mind if we don’t sign a DM. We just need to assess if Skipp can deputise.

posted on 9/7/21

I am expecting nothing from Skipp this season. Yes he had rave reviews at Norwich but the prem is a different level. I see the club and Ali G tweeting about him just now because he has returned to training.

I'm not getting my hopes up about the kid. Lessons have been learned from Winks.

Lacroix has never played in the Champions League and Kounde has had one season.

Lets not forget the comment was also in reference to Tomiyasu, Coady, Andersen.

They are Europa level at best.

I mean it's a pretty arbitrary distinction

You said they're all underwhelming and that's not true - some of them would be great signings

We really need to get this right...

We definitely need a RB & 2 CB’s

The likes of Aurier, Dier & Sanchez made so many mistakes last year... giving away needless free kicks in dangerous areas... not to mention giving away penalties & switching off...

The protection from the likes of Winks, was non existent too...
These players, plus the likes of Dele Ali... have effectively cost Poch & Mourinho their jobs!!!

As a sub he should do fine.

Tomiyasu looks nailed on at this point.

I'd prefer Milenkovic or Lacroix of the others but they'd all be decent enough and offer a decent mix of skills for a back 3.

Kounde's height is still a concern in the Prem, for me

Kounde isn't gettable for us really

Milenkovic looks good on the right of a 3
