Great words from Gary Neville too.

It doesn't help when Conservative MP Natalie Elphicke tweets:
“They lost – would it be ungenerous to suggest Rashford should have spent more time perfecting his game and less time playing politics.”
Mind you, Gary Lineker's response was excellent:
"He’d have practiced taking penalties. He’s a great player and an excellent penalty taker. The true greats of our game have all missed penalties. Also helping to feed hungry children is not politics, it’s just basic human kindness…something this young man possesses in abundance."

And to think that people vote for her. It's incredible to me that someone with that mindset should a member of our government.

Yeah, it's just sneering and superior.
I loved Barney's quote in his last article as well:
"A small section of England fans do still boo the team. But they boo them for being nice. It feels like progress."
anglo brit culture has always had a hooligan element
it was used by the military during the period of empire
it's on display every friday and saturday night in town and city centres countrywide
other nationalities don't have this section of their society, or have this weird thing with drinking alcohol to excess
or have this weird thing with drinking alcohol to excess

That's the main cause of the negative scenes we saw yesterday.
All the people smashing up central London and rushing Wembley were hammered. I'd bet that most of the racist abuse was sent by people who were drunk.
Fans abroad might have a few drinks and have a good time. In my experience, it's only the UK where you see fans at games who won't remember a thing the next day.
Peks ,what the furk are you talking about, have you ever actually lived in Spain ,I have and still do for many years ,and this sort of behaviour happens nearly every night some where !
and the TV news was fully focused on it ,just this evening ! Madre mia !
Yeah this is hardly an English problem. I'm not saying we don't like a beer and a tear up by any means but the violence paled to insignificance compared to the scenes we saw in Russia.
Still vile though and indicative of the enablement our establishment has allowed and even promoted.
There's loads of Tories and brexiteers in this country and that's about the end of it.
Tbf to Peks, the bars here are full on Friday and Saturday, and not far off on the other days
But I never read, see or hear of any problems.
They must happen, but not in gangs, so not very newsworthy.

You're absolutely right Robbing. People have short memories if they think this isn't a European wide problem. No mention of the Italian Ultras for example. No mention of the Roma Ultras that left one of your fans fighting for his life after an unprovoked attack.
As you say, we have to put our own house in order, but so do other nations.
A few messages to Priti Patel today:
Sayeeda Warsi, a Conservative peer :
“If we ‘whistle’ & the ‘dog’ reacts, we can’t be shocked if it barks & bites,” Lady Warsi tweeted. “It’s time to stop the culture wars that are feeding division. Dog whistles win votes but destroy nations.”
Tyrone Mings, international footballer:
“You don’t get to stoke the fire at the beginning of the tournament by labelling our anti-racism message as ‘Gesture Politics’ & then pretend to be disgusted when the very thing we’re campaigning against, happens.”
Hopefully people will start getting it if the backlash continues

It is pretty disgusting isn't it but sadly that is the way the world is going right now
I like this response to Natalie Elphicke's tweet.
Labour's Warrington North MP Charlotte Nichols responded, saying: 'When Natalie Elphicke has fed as many hungry children as Marcus Rashford, or done as much to inspire the nation, then she can slag him off all she likes.
'But until then, pipe down and wind your neck in.'
Sir Peter Fahy, the former chief constable of Greater Manchester and vice-chair of the body representing police chiefs, said that some politicians had “wilfully” misinterpreted why the England players were making the protest gesture.
Fahy said: “You need to take a very clear stance on anti-racism. I do think you cannot be passively anti-racist. “There is a connection. Politicians being ambivalent about their support, choosing to wilfully misinterpret what the England players are doing. That means that minority will see that as tacit support. They are giving them room to operate, especially those trying to make out that [taking the knee before games] is a political issue.”
