Firmino excuse making or what

posted on 16/7/21

How about looking at it the other way round.

Is it not true that the team is scoring fewer goals as a whole because 1/3 of a prolific high scoring forward line is not scoring many goals?

Yes you could do, but also Mane's goalscoring record has gone down over the last 3 seasons consecutively as well.

So is it fair to pinpoint all the blame to Firmino being in decline? Or is it just the style of play that has contributed to the numbers of goals a season going down.

I’d rather just use my eyes rather than your stats, and it’s pretty obvious he’s no longer up to scratch. It’s been a gradual decline, but imo he should no longer be a regular starter.

Not one for usually talking about Liverpool, but yes Firmino is underappreciated. The way Liverpool supporters turned on him last season, especially Carragher and several on here, blaming him as the reason for Liverpool's banter form was disgraceful.

He's never been a prolific goalscorer in his Liverpool career, yet last season everyone turned on him like a pack wolves; when the reality is that all Liverpool attacking players were shocking and Mane was pathetic.

He's a very good footballer is Firmino.

Still love him but he definitely was going through a rough patch last year, which looked all the worse given Jota was consistently scoring after he'd signed. It just takes a little narrative to emerge and then suddenly Bobby hitting the post becomes a bigger issue than it is. His relief when he scored that header against Tottenham was palpable.

Overall, Mane had a worse season than Firmino I'd say, anecdotally obviously

I'm pretty sure you've called him one of the worst forwards in the league before today so I'll take that with a pinch of salt as you appear to be on the WUM, what else is new.

Nobody matches his work rate as well as ball winning ability either though in that position, he's a difficult player to drop in the system.

Errrr no I haven't, i've often said I rate Firmino.

His all round gameplay has dropped a level, youd get the occasional braindead pass even at his best, but they've become more and more, his weight of pass in particularly gone downhill

will be interesting to see how he does if we get crowds back for a full season, he seems to be one that feeds off the atmosphere

but there will be games this season where i would want jota in ahead of him

No it isn't. He's a very good footballer and a great Liverpool player.

Please provide evidence of me slaughtering him. It's not my article so I can't delete the comment. Go on find it.

Bobbys always been frustrating player but he used to work incredibly hard, id be interested to see his workrate stats because be it burnt out tiredness or w.e for me his pressing was half arrsed he just jogged around too much. Not only for pressing but he'd offer himself for the ball it'd get played but he'd slow down so much to a walking speed numerous players just nipped infront of him and beat him to the pass he asked for. That was the stuff that annoyed me more with Bobby than his finishing, he was never great at finishing anyway thats as consistent as his passing, which is another thing that annoys me with him, he will fail 10 passes in a row and this isnt uncommon btw or lose the ball 10 times in a row not even exaggerating you can count them, but after all this he still tries some no look pass or rabona or some sheite and loses it again 9/10.

Anyway rant over, theres more to last season than bobby and i do love him and appreciate him.

He’s just not very good at football anymore. Used to make up for his shortage of goals with being excellent at other parts of his game. Now he’s just average to poor at everything.

Needs replacing.

I don't get the love in with him. We all know hes been a decent player but Liverpool need far better to keep challenging

Hes cemented his legacy with the club for what hes achieved here but its an area ive felt we need improving.

When you get to our level where we have such a strong first 11 it becomes very difficult to upgrade however you have to always look to improve and thats the area for me. I dont think we get nearly enough out of him anymore. For a guy leading the line for a team who have aspirations to win the league and champions league I think we are entitled to expect more from our number 9.

I wasnt blown away by him the year we won the league. Then last year was an even further drop off. There are some very big players out there just now angling for moves who I feel we should be in the mix for if we genuinely want to remain relevant. Kane for example, does all the things firmino does but also guarantees you 20 league goals a season.

I always hear about how much he does for the team but that's his job. Michail Antonio is better at it. Its a very strange almost cult following

Antionio is a shte player who is a headless chicken and his second touch is a tackle.

The issue with firmino is not goals. Theres more than enough lfc fans who know that score by now.

The fact is last season he looked off the pace of what he needs to be doing.

Whether people think the defensive line needs to be high or a particular.midfield is needed or just plain mane was poor. That's all cool but in the end whatever the reason firmino was poor last season.

posted on 16/7/21

He’s just not a prolific striker. But what he does do is top class. His link up play, his movement, the space he creates by being a menace in the attacking third. He’s a great asset to Liverpool and has been an important cog in your play that has resulted in a lot of success.

Would still rather have him than firmino who is more interested in how his ridiculous teeth look
