Sibley's first class strike rate is 40, Hameed's is 38. Both have a strike rate of 34 in test cricket so they pretty much bat at the same pace. In fact, Hameed's nickname is Baby Boycott
Hameed has quite a simple technique though and a couple of nice shots so aesthetically he is probably better to watch but I can't see much of an improvement to the side in picking Hameed over Sibley.
I guess one problem could be that if Burns goes early then you've got two guys in who will bat at 2 an over but if they bat out a session and wear the bowlers down then it's less of an issue.

Bring Cook out of retirement
----------------------------------------------------------------------
He's not had a good summer. I imagine he will retire from all forms at the end of this season.
----------------------------------------------------------------------
Yeah I think so, if he's not performing then he won't want to stand in the way and block young batsmen from getting a chance. The batting line up at Essex is pretty old now with Browne at 30, Cook at 36, Westley at 32, Ten Doeschate at 41, Wheater 31. Needs a bit of younger blood especially with Lawrence currently in the test set up.

Having Sibley and Hameed bat together would be, erm, interesting. At least we may get to lunch only one down. The other side of that is that we'd probably be 26/1 off 25 overs.

Loving that leave Sibbers, loving that leave!
Loving that forward defence Has, absolutely loving it!
The commentators on TMS will have to dig deep for things to talk about.
Broad is an injury doubt.
Wood in for Broad then with Curran keeping his place. Think with the inclusion of Mo, that will offer some decent variety to our attack. Not that the bowling was too much of an issue in the first test.

Moeen probably batted in every position for England in Tests.
Think Curran's batting keeps him in the side, he was pretty useless with the ball.
Our batting lineup must apply itself so much better at Lords.... 80% of our Batsman were a disgrace at Trent bridge
@englandcricket
Seamer @SaqMahmood25 has been added to our squad as cover for the second Test against India.
Spinner Dom Bess will leave the squad and return to Yorkshire.

With the weather being better and the pitch being drier then a spinner seems likely. With less movement potentially around then Woods extra pace could also be handy. As mentioned though, the bowling isn't so much the issue. Be interesting to see where Mo bats though. I would go with
Burns
Sibley
Hameed
Root
Bairstow
Buttler
Moeen
Curran
Robinson
Wood
Jimmy
----------------------------------------------------------------------
Yeah, agree with this line up. Mo should bat at 7 with Buttler at 6. Their averages batting in these positions are superior to if you swap them over.
Buttler averages 51.5 at 6 and 29.7 at 7.
Mo averages 37 at 7 and 21.5 at 6.
The extra responsibility is good for Buttler and the extra freedom works better for Moeen. It's only 1 position but it seems to make a substantial difference to both.
Was this a tactical switch
talkSPORT reporting that Jimmy is a possible doubt now as well
Broad and Jimmy both out is a massive blow if they do miss out. Broad's injury is potential a bit more serious and sounds like he will definitely miss out so think Wood is a certainty to come in. Jimmy sounds like he could still play but if he's out too then it's Overton vs Mahmood for that spot. The general consensus seems to be that Mahmood would get the nod.
It'll make it quite an inexperienced seam attack though with Curran being the veteran with 22 tests.

He's not having the best of years but he looked better in that second innings and prior to that had been really good for the last couple of years.
Although in saying that, a mate of mine asked what my line up would be for the next test and I said I'd bring Wood in for Broad as well
Broad is definitely out. Hopefully Jimmy will be okay but with Broad's injury looking like it could keep him out of a few, I'm sure he won't be risked unless he's feeling 100% but I think he'll be keen to play.
Good backup options in Saqib, Wood & Overton.
If Jimmy is out, then it's difficult to see England winning.
Broad been ruled out for the series according to BBC
Wood is a good bowler to bring in for Broad, he's stepped up his game in the last couple of years and crucially managed to keep himself fit. Still a blow to lose Broad though, unbelievable how he still has to prove himself to some people despite taking over 500 wickets in his career.
Jimmy would obviously be a hammer blow and if he's out then the batsmen will need to stand up and deliver as it'll be asking a lot of an inexperienced attack to bail us out if they fail again.

Yeah just read this, slightly surprised but with Moeen likely coming in for Lawrence, there isn't going to be a space for Pope anyway.
