For the price of Rice we could probably sign Neves and Bissouma which would give us better options I think.
Their wages combined probably wouldn't be what we'd pay for Pogba's proposed new deal either. We'd probably rely more on creativity from full backs and forwards but I do think we'd progress the ball better to our forwards with them.
to be honest not a real fan of Neves and i think if we were goind down that route id be more inclined to go for Saul
Ideally we would be able to pair Rice with Pogba, allowing the latter to pilau forward.
For the price and what we need in a DM, he's not the answer. People complain about Fred and his limitations and the same if McTominay, people will have a meltdown with Rice, especially as the cost and wages he'd take up.

I think he'd do well in a more attacking team. Think he'd have more space in that deep role at United to pass the ball around and I think he's very capable of breaking the lines.
I read some stats yesterday saying his off the ball work is good as well.
I genuinely think no one quite know how good or bad Rice is. The guy is highly rated by a lot of people in the game yet some fans think he’s average at best. He probably needs a move to a better club for people to properly judge how good or bad he is.
Imagine Rice pudding the strings from deep midfield.
I like Neves, would much prefer him over Rice. Rice is good at what he does, but not a huge improvement over McT

I think it's the price that puts a lot of people off. For the talked about money you'd be expecting more. Perhaps that's unfair on him. If we do sign someone there though it does need to be someone who's careful on the ball and can progress the team up the pitch with good passing between the lines. We don't actually lose many with McT and Fred in the team but we do draw a lot which suggests they perhaps keep it to safe or don't have the skillset to be very progressive.

to be honest he impressed me in the euros, went about his job simply but effectively and was one of the main reasons Englands defensive record was so good.
he is one of those players who will probably never get the recognition he deserves, similar to Carrick because he just gets on with it and keeps it simple.
I think the main problem with Rice is whether he'll be able to curry the ball forward

its slightly concerning though that we have to play both mctominnay and fred in there to cover for each others deficiencies... it would be better if we had a player who could actually do both

It is concerning yes but, the more I think about it, I don't think we will just see one player doing their jobs. I think we'll still see the 'two' in there but we need at least one who's better on the ball IMO. Ideally two players. It seems Ole is welded to the 4231 so we need quality in there to get the ball forward to Bruno and the forwards quicker.
The type of player, not the player we should be looking at.
I think Rice is a good player but the Euros’s showed up his limitations on the ball. For what he would cost there’s probably better available.
He's tidy on the ball without being creative. He certainly no Andrea Pilau.

Pretty much. If he was good on the ball and a better passer, he'd be able to replace McFred.
Unfortunately, he still needs another beside him.
I'm not really seeing much of an upgrade.
I think Rice ability on the ball is very underrated.
