Culer is a bit of a Walter Mitty
Yeah the way Fergie really set himself aside from Wenger was his ability to change things up and bring in new ideas around him, while Wenger just became stale and surrounded by yes men.
I think it's kinda simple on paper to delegate those things but you have to really understand the club, which Ole does and is why he can get the best out of players where other people might not be able to. Hell, I think his management style didn't work at smaller clubs as you can't treat Cardiff players the same as Utd players, but this might be perfect role.
I dunno if he can take you to the top level but he's certainly leaving you in better shape than he found you as far as I can tell.

The title may just have become ours now we have Varane. It gives us a better first XI than Chelsea, LFC and City.

There are 4 teams that have far better squads than the rest of league and United are among them.
When it comes to best starting 11's though,City,Chelsea and Liverpool in that order are ahead of United. When it comes to managers then it's City,Liverpool,Chelsea,Leicester,Everton and West Ham all ahead of United,in that order.
----------------------------------------------------------------------
We may well do but given how football plays out, you don't necessarily need the best starting 11 or the strongest squad on paper.
People will have said the same last year, you just don't know what will happen during a season. Liverpool could well be a powerhouse again but they could also have VVD not be quite the player he was and Konate continue to struggle with injury. If Mane has the same output and Salah struggles a bit then suddenly they could well be back to chasing the others.
----------------------------------------------------------------------
If it came down to a tight title race between the 4 main clubs, then I'd look at United being the least likely to win, simply down to the managers.
----------------------------------------------------------------------
Maybe. He has gotten the best of these managers multiple times though. He dumped Tuchel's PSG out, including Mbappe and Neymar, he's beaten Klopp and Pep multiple times. His record against Pep is actually pretty darn good. Our main failing has been our inability to break teams down, I think it's a bit too easy to put it all at Solkjaer's door in that sense. Klopp also had issues with beating smaller teams a couple of season before they won the league.
The are actually far more matches where Solkjaer's tactics were spot on than people would have you believe. He's also had his share of mares but so do they all. Pep absolutely fluffed the CL final and has been dumped out by the likes of Porto and Lyon. These are generally glossed over though and I find it strange he hasn't had a lot more stick for his repeated failings in the CL but a far inferior manager, with a far inferior squad seems to be held at a harsher standard. Makes sense though, it's pretty clear that people are still more bothered by United than City.

I almost see comparisons with Zidane.
I don't think either are the best tacticians, coaches even but that's harder to assess, but they're both demonstrably good at keeping dressing rooms together at big clubs.
He's been backed incredibly well, those protests seem a long while ago don't they, but maybe he can get them over the line in something.

Yeah seems like a fair comparison.
I don't know how well Zidane would get on at a smaller club, but there's only a very small amount of people who really understand the expectations and standards of a huge club and how to manage it all.
It's a hugely valuable skill and Ole obviously took a fair amount in over his time as a player, plus has an open like of communication with SAF i guess

Can't argue with this. We may well ultimately need a Conte or someone to get us over the line but I certainly wouldn't have wanted him to have followed Mourinho. That was a genuinely miserable time and we desperately needed a cultural reboot and overhaul. Even if that's all he ultimately achieves, I will personally remember his time as manager fondly.
