City ruining football once again, first £100m signing in English football

FFP was relaxed because of the Pandemic. I think this is just certain clubs taking advantage of the situation to ensure their place for the next half decade. No sourness, just what I think.

It doesn’t, transfer spending is down all across football. Wages have been reduced for a lot of clubs as well. A select few aren’t indicative of the financial health of the sport.

I dont think that the pandemic has affected the financial clout of Oil Sheiks, rulers of Middle Eastern Countries and Russian oligarchs.

shows the pandemic isn’t seemingly affecting *PL football finances as much as other leagues*

City's spending as others have said is probably the least telling for reasons connected to their ownership and rationale. However, it does look as though the TV money the PL brings in has insulated English clubs from the worst effects of the pandemic. Everyone has taken a big revenue hit but it looks as though the PL clubs can sustain it - and maybe are in a position to pick up bargains as European clubs seek to cut costs.

So who’s place in the City team does he take?

Sterling. I have a sneaking suspicion Pep isn’t as big a fan as he used to be.

I think Bernado is going to leave.

Is it possible City are spending in anticipation of potential future transfer bans ?

I might regret saying this but I think he will be a similar signing as Mahrez was... A fine addition to a fine squad, but not a player that takes them to another level.

At least Villa are spending the Grealish money well.

£38M on Buendia and £25m on Bailey, with maybe another 1 or 2 to come.

The French champions Lille are in financial trouble and looks to sell players. The Italian champions Inter need to sell players. Barca struggled to get Messi a new contract and desperately want to move on high earners & got outbid by PSG for Wijnaldum. RM have focused on moving players on, only Alaba on a free coming in.

I'm not sure Utd, City and Chelsea are the best indicators for finances in football.

He won't break up the Kane - Sterling partnership if they get him (which they will)

Premier league spending is down loads this summer as well.

What level can they go to?

Already regular Prem winners and Champs League finalists last season.

They are simply solidifying their grip on the league, especially if they get kane

This.

Though if they get Kane as well then they'll be at another level.

Big call that bearing in mind in last 2 seasons Grealish has managed 17 goals and Sterling 45

City are gonna line up with this front five:

KDB Grealish
Mahrez Kane Sterling

Lord help us all.

If they get Kane I imagine the dynamic will change goal wise. Plus I’d expect Grealish will score a lot more in a City that dominates every game than a Villa side that doesn’t.

The Athletic did an article last week about how Pep was planning on moulding Grealish into a number 8 in his team if he can alongside De Bryune which would make sense in City's team.

It looks like Bernardo Silva might be the one to make way.

Squad definitely needs freshening up given Chelsea already look more of a threat under Tuchel, United have made moves, and Liverpool will come back stronger with VVDs return. Can’t see Bernardo not leaving now, plus maybe another.

I can see Villa buying Tuanzebe. Let him be their injury problem, not ours.

A higher one.

eg, signing Kane or Haaland would legit put them in a higher level on paper.

I think Bailey is a good signing, not at all convinced by Buendia for £38m.

Isn't that the Man City model? Very good players plus back up for each position without that statement signing in the hope very good all over the pitch beats all
