Would hope it is Ait-Nouri instead of Marcal if we are going with wing backs given Marcal is a solid defender but wouldn't offer as much going forward.

Hopefully we won't be playing with a back three for long but right now I don't see that we have too much choice, Mosquera possibly opened the door to a back four til injury.

Don’t think Boly is fit is he? Thought he was out until the end of August. So Kilman will surely start, I would pick him ahead of Saiss anyway. I think we need Marcal in as left back/wing back to give more protection to a defence that’s below strength. Also think Traore works better without a wing back on the left so he has the space to do what he wants. Trincao and Semedo seemed to work together well on the right when they played together against Betis in Spain.

Some good news emerging that Neto may be fit to resume a month earlier than expected and Podence is now close to returning to full training

There are PL ffp rules too though arent there which we are still within, its just the more stringent UEFA ones that we breached. Not sure of the facts around that tbh.

Anyway footies back, pubs are open, going out in town with the lads tonight with Wolves and baggy mates (Villa mate cant make it). Normality returns!

Not sure I’d agree this isn’t a Fosun issue. Them’s the rules and they need to comply with them. They had a worse problem at Villa but their owners put in over £100m to clear their debts, something Fosun have not been prepared to do

Went into Brum last night to a guy’s retirement party where I was greatly outnumbered by Villa fans. They are sad to lose Grealish but very happy how the proceeds are being used. Brings back memories of the early 80s when they sold Andy Gray to Wolves for close to a record fee and used the money to buy 5 new players. Couple of years later they were European champions

Owen Otasowie looked set for a move to Belgium but is now evidently being hunted by the likes of West Ham and Everton. Available for only £5m hope that doesn’t turn out to be a sale we regret

selling him to Belgium is one thing, but selling him to aa rival for such a nominal fee is mental

Fosun didnt have any debt to clear to be fair, Morgan followed Sir Jack in writing off the debts owed to him by the club. What Fosun have tried to do is invest to set the club up in to a position where they can generate their own profits, through PL money, broadcast revenue and player trading.

Fosun in fact probably did too much too soon, Nuno and the squad over performed in the first three seasons, qualifying for Europe and leading to us walking the UEFA FFP tightrope. I can understand the owners hence easing off the gas, but Im sure when they are able they will invest again, I really dont think as many are suggesting that Fosun has lost interest in the project, I just think they and the club are managing the situation carefully. Maybe a little too carefully, some level loss is allowed, and this is where it gets contentious. If we dont sell a Neves or a Traore and we want to improve the squad where does teh money come from, is Jeff going cap in hand to HQ or has he been told categorically by them not to bother. That is the unknown.

Why does it always have to be smoke and mirrors with us ?
Lots of teams say are going to sign players and then they do, we just keep it all under the table and then say we were trying to sign so and so but it didn't come off.
This happens every transfer window and we end up with a couple of 19 year olds who we sell two years down the line.
I've said it before that there are players in the UK who are good enough to play in the Prem but we do not even look at them.
