Perfect arc, perfect weight, first time, came from a goal kick so was all rather impromptu.

I enjoyed it.

Pogba has always been capable of moments of brilliance, I don't think anyone doubts that.

His issue is performing consistently

Pogba got one more assist in today's game than he did in all Premier League games last season.

Pogba is the creative force in this side! So must stay especially if We want to challenge

Only 6 league assists in two whole seasons. Then 4 assists in one game today. Pogba's a massive talent but he needs to have a whole season playing like he did today.

Playing in a deep double pivot.

It doesn’t take a rocket scientist to work out that if you play him in the final 3rd he’ll produce more. It’s like playing Bruno in a pivot and expecting the same amount of goals and assists as last season.

I've said before that I could see Pogba having a really standout year and taking it up a notch. It's the reason I'd risk losing him on a free because if he continues as he has then he's worth far more this year than the fee we'd receive. If we do well and he decides to stay, great but if he does leave, he may have been able to give us that push this year to be back to being taken seriously.

I do think though that if we win the league, it's next year rather than this year.

Plays like that 7 times in every 10 games that will do for me. Will he though?

Based on the last 4 seasons, more likely to be 2/10 games like that, but maybe this will be his break out year.

on redcafe he was given a mark of 9.4/10, so at least we now know that if he puts in a 9/10 performance in 70% of his matches - something no footballer in history has ever done - then he will get the begrudging respect of some on this board.

everyone knows that you get the best out of pogba by giving him minimal defensive responsibility. Not in a double pivot.

he will always be susceptible to a moment of carelessness but by playing him higher up the pitch those moments are less likely to be costly and he is also more likely to be an attacking moments like today

But we know we will never win anything with Ole, as you have repeatedly told us. So we won't challenge Pogba or not.

and the whole nonsense about his assists output needs to stop, as kung fu says, it is remarkably simple - play pogba (or anyone) in a midfield two, behind a front 4, and the chances to provide assists are extremely limited.

in 17/18 and 18/19, when he played a more forward midfield role, he managed 19 assists across the 2 seasons.

last 2 seasons, when he's been much deeper lying, it has obviously been much harder - but even then, you can see that when played more advanced, he can produce a lot: transfermarkt, which i think counts penalties won as an assist, has him with 3 assists last season from 26 games in a midfield two, and 6 from 15 in a more advanced role.

funnily enough fred and mctominay - 2 assists between them in the PL in the last 2 seasons, in c. 2.5 x pogba's minutes - also fail to assist much from deep, partly of course because that isn't really their role in the team.

by way of a more ancient example, carrick managed 32 PL assists in 17 fullish seasons, and failed to register a single assist in 6 of those.
