It's a good point, and one that isn't solely related to Arsenal.

I look at some transfers that big clubs make, and, (not that my opinion counts for anything at all), I just think to myself, why on earth are you signing that player? How on earth do you come to the conclusion that this player is good enough to be a strong part of your team for the next 2-5 years? Sometimes they're just clearly not of the required standard or quality. Sometimes they're 30+ and clearly on the decline. Some, you just can't believe the fee is anywhere near what it is.

And I'm not even just talking about glaringly obvious ones like Carroll to Liverpool.

Some examples off the very top of my head (as there have been a lot of them over the last few years) are:

Arsenal:

Kallstrom
Squillaci
Andre Santos
Park Chu Young
Mustafi
Willian

Man City:

Mangala
Jesus Navas
Negredo
Demichelis

Liverpool:

Balotelli
Lambert
Konchesky
Charlie Adam

Chelsea:

Drinkwater
Baba Rahman
Djilobodji
Morata

I'm sure there are many more. People may say hindsight is a wonderful thing, but I can absolutely assure you, the players I have listed, I would have bet good money on each one of them that they would not be a success, and would have gone/been sold within 3 years of them joining. To me, any fan with half a brain would have known!

For some reason a few of you seem to think I’m talking about money, I’m not.

I’m saying the quality of players brought in has been poor compared to what you deserve and should be getting and I’m wondering why as a fan base you’re not protesting massively every single week.

Did you write on of these after United bought Fred, Wan-Bissaka and Lindelof?
----------------------------------------------------------------------
Why are you being so defensive for? I want Arsenal back to the top of their game?

Yes United have wasted plenty of money since SAF but we’re talking about Arsenal….

How is a keeper like Ramsdale going for £30m? Every year the transfer window gets more and more shambolic.
----------------------------------------------------------------------
He cost 24M
----------------------------------------------------------------------
+6m in add ons for games played and avoiding relegation

You need to inform yourself better.

I get that Arsenal would struggle to attract the more 'sexier' names in football considering their position today, but I still find it baffling how they choose to invest. Odegaard is a good player, and Ramsdale is probably a decent keeper, but to spend around £60million when neither of them improves their gaping weaknesses in the team baffles me. And that's not even going into spending £50million on a defender who loses the majority of aerial duels.

We tear into Arteta and rightly so (let's be honest, he's been clueless), but Edu is currently stealing a living there. Completely shocking business from them this summer.

Blame the market and clubs like Chelsea who inflated the market with their money and players on high wages.
----------------------------------------------------------------------
Your net spend has been higher than ours the last 5 years and this year is looking no different. Next time instead of spouting rubbish just state the simple truth that Chelsea are better run than Arsenal.

Bank of England funding you again ffs what is this the 20th century?

OP the answer to why is likely the same as the answer to why the Emirates spends/spent so much time quiet during matches over the years even when the teams played well. A mix of too many prawn sandwich eaters who don't make much noise about anything and a whole bunch of Wenger spoilt brats who've spent years being mad at the wrong people, essentially Wenger and a laundry list of players. They'd rather boo at or slate them than actually focus everyone's effort on the real problem.

I mean really, our lot can't even muster up enough protest noise to prevent the clubs worst manager ever getting a new contract. Is it any wonder they can't even come close to making enough fuss to get the owner to sell up.

That said, you lot still have the Glazers and you all been protesting loud and hard for years.

At least they back your managers in the market though.

And it looks like we’re heading in the right direction and also won some stuff in our down time, not a lot but some.

I just think I’d be going mental, I’m sure you are but it just occurred to me so thought I’d write a quick article.

I miss proper United v Arsenal days
