Does he have an agreement though?

100m for Rice?

I think what West Ham mean is that Declan is not for sale.

if you are being valued at £100m then the wages should match that valuation.

Dont think he's much better than what we currently have anyway. Anything over £50-60m in the current market is daylight robbery.

agreed

I watch him and I compare him to the best in the epl in that position. Fabino, kante, ndidi evenor fernandinho when he was younger and it is clear he is not in the same class.
He is a good player, kinda like henderson a poorman version of carrick

Used to see it in Scotland all the team, teams wanting millions for a guy they paid like £1500 a week , if he's worth £4million or £40million the club should be paying you the going rate.

Does anyone really understand how these valuations are reached?

I mean, I get that it’s basically a pay off - cover the cost of players remaining contract, plus a fee to cover projected earnings that the player (asset) would bought into the (selling) club, plus a courtesy amount to enable the selling club to replace the player.

But even then, the figures spouted by the media, and fans, just seem to be so arbitrary.

I’m genuinely struggling to understand how player valuations work…

As an actual defensive midfielder he’s a lot better than what we currently have. Question is whether we need a player of his ilk. I’m not convinced we do, but I’ve a feeling Ole does and we’ll look to sign him next summer.

Is the £100m the cost for Rice's English Citizenship?

the price goes up heavily if the player is English partly due to the homegrown rule but even taking that into account the amount of very average players that go for north of £20million is laughable

valuation are based on how much selling club thinks they can mug the buying club for before bying club looks elsewhere

But if a player gets a career threatening injury, his value will automatically go down because of the uncertainty behind it, should the player then be forced to take a pay cut to reflect that

rice was a teenager already at a tug of war between ireland and england, got a massive wage for a teenager at the time and a long term contract, its clear that his ceiling was higher than what west ham could offer, so the blame for this situation lies directly at his agent for not getting something in the contract o let him leave, instead, they took the money and its biting him in the backside now

I am just about to watch benfica for the sole purpose od seeing Julian weigl

I honestly believe he is the answer to our problem. He has not had luck in the last few years but his technical abilities is everything we could ask for in a number 6 and more.

Sadly, utd seem to only focus on players who are in the media spot light and one of the reason we traditionally get mugged in transfer market or maybe the media focuses on players we are interested i (not quite sure)

of course it will, that's perhaps another reason holding on to a player or paying them less than you believe they are worth isn't a good idea.

I think Rice brings more than just footballing attributes. Which are good but not £100m worth. He is a leader, by all accounts one of the hardest workers and he wants to win.

Watching videos of him around the England camp, he must be great for team morale.

Because there is no formula. The market heavily influences the price and it ultimately comes to to what a team value that player at and if someone is willing to pay it.

Nobody is paying that amount for Rice. So as has been said already, its effectively West Ham saying they don't want to sell, though I imagine if someone did stump up that figure then they would begrudgingly go with it.

West Ham probably feel that they can easily replace Rice, not at this stage of the window. It's no good getting £50 million when they have to go and dump that into someone else who may not even bring what he does to their team. So they need a replacement, a profit and costs to make the whole thing worthwhile. Then it's the gamble if whether his replacement even replaces him. These clubs don't need the money like they used to, gone are the days of the bigger clubs being able to bully them into selling a player they value.

posted on 21/8/21

I’m pretty sure West Ham mean £10m. There’s no way they could actually value him at £100m. That would be insane.

Maybe they meant 100mil Indian rupees.

`Bissouma is way ahead of Rice and cheaper.
