I feel for JR, he hasnt really been given a fair shot in my eyes. I can understand that he would be upset after the season and the play-offs with the amount of gametime he had. But on the other hand if the results come without, Then its a tough call to make. I wouldnt get rid of jordan and hes gota be worth 1.5m at least. Surely with his age and goal ratio. But if a player dosent want to stay and play then i guess you have to let him go.
Rodes is a funny one for me, BOOOOTHY. I don't really think he has all the attributes needed to be a really top player. Half the time the lad meanders around the park looking seriously unfit and he's missed some that even Theo might have banged in.
Yet the fact remains that he does get into the right position and scores goals consistently.
And as long as goals remain the top commodity in football then he has to be worth a million at the very least. With age on his side too and Town not being desperate to sell then anything less than £1.5m isn't really worth listening to.
The People has a bit on this story: -
http://www.people.co.uk/sport/football/football-hotline/2011/06/12/jordan-rhodes-wants-crunch-talks-with-huddersfield-boss-102039-23195375/
I remember when we were away at Walsall, and we were struggling at 2-2. Rhodes came off the bench and totally transformed the game, and we ended up winning 4-2.
It showed that day what he has to offer, we are a better team when he is on the field, especially now the distraction of Afobe has gone....
We should keep him and give a quality strike partner aswell imo...
We definitely need another quality striker.
If we'd just bloody paid for Lambert we'd be out of League 1
Rhodes is a little light weight but he should bulk up with age. Some games when he plays he looks to run out of steam.I think we should keep him and get him a good strike partner to play off.
If we are going to get promoted one thing is for sure someone will have to score 20 plus goals. Nobody else on the books can do that and any new signing is a risk so letting him go would be foolish.
He simply needs time on the pitch with another striker, who ever that is, to build a partnership with. The only time that has happened was with Novak and as a front 2 they were very good. His strike partner should be the one doing all the running working the channels leaving Jordan to simply score the goals.
Jordan needs to get in the gym. I'm not as concerned as others about his fitness, plenty of players have done very well without been able to run a marathon. What he does need is some upper body weight to avoid the bullying he gets. Anyone can get bigger, it's just hard work and hours in the gym.
Boothy, agreed. Best front men are Novak & Rhodes..
This is my theory on why LC hardly plays them...
He needed to get some back up so he got Alan Lee, Afobe and then Cads. But LC felt he had to use these new players because he was scared of upsetting them.
In turn none of them scored any goals so he kept rotating them to try and keep them all happy.
But in doing this LC lost sight of what was right under his nose all along, a very good front partnership..Rhodes & Novak.
These 2 kept only getting dropped because they are both softies & LC aint scared of em..shimples,,
My theory is you don't need to fix it if it ain't broken...
Oh yer and we need to get rid of Alan Lee sharpish, he is in the way and LC is scared of him...imo
Would KP be good for him?
I've been saying for months that we need 2 up top,to play together and form an understanding. To me that was JR and LN/AL. JR has been treated badly by LC, saying last season he was too tired after too many games, then this season left out altogether. I accept JR looks slow at times, a bit overweight even, but he is a proven goalscorer, why would we sell him. If LC won't pick him maybe its LC who should go and not JR ?
if lee clarks office is more than a 30 yard run from the pitch i doubt jordan has got there yet, he will have had to have a number of rest breaks..
young man, always been a footballer, cant understand why he has no engine.. he may score goals but offers nothing in far too many games.. you have to make a difference when you are on the pitch as a striker wether you score or not..
town simply are not good enough to carry a passenger or passengers... rhodes/roberts/joey g etc have all gone totally missing in some games and its not acceptable..
He doesn't contribute enough for me,but having said that if he was partnered with Novak who could do all the donkey work,we could see him flourish and the "not contributing enough" would be taken away from him.He can score goals and gets into the right areas to score goals and he is a decent player,so,no I wouldn't sell him.Clark has to stop mucking about with the front line and go for consistence with the strikers ie same partnership for a length of time. The only other complaint I have with Rhodes is that he can be a bit light weight and needs to bulk up his upper body strength.
As far as I can see, nearly all the Town players go missing at some point in the match, it seems we play with 9 or 10 men sometimes. Why would that be ? Surely not deliberate, so is it motivation or an attitude problem...does that apply to all the Town players ?...you can see where I'm going with this can't you...
....and yes Kevin Phillips would be a excellent signing for this level to use as a impact sub, when we need a goal when things aren't going our way when teams like Tranmere park the team bus,he's just the thing a bit of quality.
Didn't we get Alan Lee to do that job, at £10,000 a week or however much. We need players to create an impact from the 1st minute, not a bench full of impact players costing an arm and a leg, imo
jacko..
we have periods where the players dont really want the ball, we stop running with it and usually the pass is sideways or backwards..
this leads to the hoof down the pitch as the opposition have had plenty of time to re adjust and then move up onto our back players who leather it anywhere..
i honestly dont know why this happens but the lack of support for the player on the ball is a big giveaway as to how town are going to approach the rest of the game..
sorry for repeating myself, but if you dont try and win the game, chances are you wont.. although this theory was sorely tested in the "unbeaten run" where we won games whilst spending most of it going nowhere, slowly...
working on the principle that the opposition will miss easy chances and bennett will have a stormer is not a tactic that i would wish to use as a manager..(see old trafford for details!!)
38, you're spot on with that. Of course the opposing side have something to do with it, and might target our key players to put them off their game. We don't look a fluent outfit do we, too much randomness in the play, no one seems to know what pattern we are supposed to be playing, and if JG or KB or any other midfielder is off their game, then we're stuck. I can't bear the thought of another season of that stuff...2 midfield players of skill, pace and vision...it's the engine room where we are weakest, but all LC did was bring in strikers and defenders..nuff said.
Danny Drinkwater is the answer Jacko, don't know what the question is though! Him and Damien Johnson is the exact kind of duo we should be looking for in there.
The question was why JR never played, and why we persevere with one striker..problem was LC swamped midfield with bodies rather than class...more class in midfield enables 2 strikers home and away..JR teaming up with regular partner up front, everybody happy...maybe. thought Drinkwater was a bit flash to be honest, but he had skill and aggression...so yes, perhaps...where is he now ? Are we signing Johnson...or have we ?
Drinkwater is still a Man United player but after failing to excel at Cardiff or Watford i hear they would let him go for a fee.
As for Johnson he is still contracted to Plymouth but they will be desperate to get rid. Bit of cat and mouse in situations like that, i suspect not only will we want him on a free but want them to give him a pay off so we can pay him less. Similar to Kilbane but i would not sign him if i were the boss.
i'd rather have johnson than Kilbane , i think a lot of our poor play and siiting back stemed from the fact that the central midfield didnt hold the ball and just hoofed it upfield at times. Kilbane seemed to be a major culprit.
I was underwhelmed by Joey G, and Arfield. although i think with the right person beside him Arfield could come good.
Drinkwater i think would be a good addition and alongside Johnson could make a very good paring, i'm also hoping Atkinson make a bug push for a place next season
Never really was a fan of Drinkwater failed to see what he brought to the team.I've been disappointed with Gudjonnsson and Arfield too MN maybe its the style we've adopted, who knows, but yes I'd agree very disappointing.I would definitely try and sign Johnson but not Kilbane as all he did was give the ball away or whack it down the pitch long.
