Though the Denmark team would have been better

Slovenia is fine as your longest away trip. It's roughly a similar distance to Seville.

Quick question, do Europa teams that don’t make the knockout stages drop down into the Conference in a similar way to the CL dropouts into the Europa?

Yes

Yup, the 8 third placed teams from Europa come to join the party!

Change that. Flight time is actually 35 minutes shorter than Seville. Slightly shorter than Madrid too.

I was so preoccupied with the geography that I've only just looked at the teams we drew - some ok teams in there, should be a nice challenge for squad players

looking at the sides... a few there that have CL experience

us obviously
basel
roma
copenhagen

feyenoord and one or two others will probably be competitive... but we have to be looking at that group and thinking the squad with a couple of first team should get us through, and then its horses for courses from there on in.

unless we are ultra competitive in league and domestic cups in the run in there is no excuse for not getting very far in this thing, if not winning it outright.

Lots of the teams that are in this competition are better than the team that knocked Spurs out last season, so will needed respecting.

Every tie will have to have a smattering of squad and 1st teamers. Cannot just put out squad players and youngsters, we know 100 per cent that doesn`t work.

Similar teams to last night will do in the Group Stages, then stronger once the knockout stage comes after the New Year.

Squad players alone won`t get Spurs far.

Suppose Vitesse and Rennes can both cause problems, but on the bright side, you don't need to win every game, just top the group. Would even do to come second and make sure to play a strong team against the EL dropouts if they're strongish.

Agreed, my definition of a squad team was like the one we played last night

Spurs should be winning the Group if they respect their opponents. Which I expect Nuno to do.

In fairness, even those teams that drop out of the EL aren't going to be *that* strong either.

Theoretically, it should be a Spurs vs Roma final, depending on who drops out of the EL, but the teams you'd anticipate to drop out of the EL likely won't be much better, if any, than those that are in both pot 2 of this competition.

Just did a bit of analysis of the groups by UEFA coefficient ranking and whilst overall our group is only the fifth 'toughest', when you look at just the top three teams (realistically the ones challenging) in each group ours is the 2nd toughest.

This is just splitting hairs though, our team is ranked 50 places higher than the next best team in our group and we should easily be finishing top.

Problem is mate, I don`t take a lot of notice of rankings. I am sure the team Spurs played last year and knocked Spurs out were miles behind Spurs in the rankings.

It's all about respecting the competition. If we turn out a half decent side in the group games, and a decent side in the knockouts, then in principle we should have at least a 70% chance of winning this, subject to who we draw, and maintaining form into next year.

On the face of it, with the obvious exception of Roma, and any decent team who for some reason falls out of the EL, we must be looking to go deep in this competition, surely.
