It has to be red because certain goal versus just the 74.88% (statzone) chance of a goal via a penalty is not equitable. That's why it was a red.

But the rule is inconsistent if it doesn’t matter if the handball is deliberate or not.
If the rule continues with that logic then every penalty shd result in a red card for the player that offends.

TAA got away with an identical one last season.
I don't remember too many complaints.
----------------------------------------------------------------------
When was that?
----------------------------------------------------------------------
I was thinking of someone else but I was also thinking that TAA handball against City a couple of years ago that was far more obvious than James's and there was definate intent.

He's made himself bigger and in so doing stopped a goal. Whether he batted it away or not is irrelevant but it probably sealed the decision that it made it look like it was deliberate in the first instance - not going to tell me that is a result of lifting his leg?
If there was no red card for goal line hand balls they'd all be doing it!
As for other penalty incidents, not so many of them prevent certain goals.

You are not going to tell me he deliberately knocked the ball from his thigh to his arm. And you are not going to tell me that you can raise your leg quickly and do so without your arms moving.
And even Klopp said it was intentional.
If those are the rules then the match officials have to implement them as they stand, but it is yet another exampleof a bad rule.
The idea that a player should be sent off for an unintentional and non dangerous offence is absurd.
Even Klopp said it wasn't intentional in his view.
It was instinctive. Handled it and moved hand fwd. Laws of the game pen
Get over it

Anyway very early days but Chelseashould be more buoyed by today than Liverpool. We were the better team till the penalty and then showed great mental toughness 2nd half.
----------------------------------------------------------------------
You weren't. You played on the counter attack. It's much more difficult to play a high line and leave space behind which we did. We had the most possession in the first and should have scored first with the Hendo chance. Score that one and you had to open up which would played into our cards.
I was more happy with our CBs and Virgil had Lukaku in his pocket again. VVD will improve with more game time and we will dominate most games.
if VVD had Lukaku in his pocket why was he volleying it goal wards from 4 yards with vvd nowhere to be seen?
if matip hadn't have been there he would've scored

Oh yes we were...Annfield was like a fwckin library until the penalty and that was because we were controlling the game and should have already killed it.
Really good watch until the red card. Two quality teams evenly matched.
Hopefully there's no BS at Stamford Bridge so we can get 90 mins of that
Look at 0-1 everyone would take the draw.
It was the same old story. Massed defense? Mass panic in our team
Mane was woeful.
Trent thinking he was a no 10 and vvd telling him 4 or 5 times to get wide.
There was so many thing wrong with that display.
In the end however we have 2 reverse wingers who want to go narrow and run in front of a side rather than get behind them when set. So if the two full backs refuse to overlap and hold wide we make it really easy.
Chelsea only ever had to defend half the pitch.
We have no donkey like lukaku to pump balls at from wide so our efforts to create were poor.

Lukaku. Hes horrendous.. just stand off him let him have the ball then he falls over it.
I thought Chelsea were in control most of the first half and when they went a man down it was even steven after that.
On the bright side though were solid and look hard to beat.
