I really don’t get the Mata deal.
VDB featured last season but not much. Considering he hasn’t gotten a second this season it doesn’t look like much is changing. I’d start him against Newcastle but I doubt it will happen.
Lingard probably offers more than James in possession but James looks more likely to play.
I'd let Pogba go for free. Then buy him back for £90m and make double that amount through shirt sales. Then we could use that £90m profit to pay off Mata, Jones, James and Lingard's contracts and get rid of them. Simple.
Just play all 4. I am sure the FA will allow you to play 13 or 14 on the pitch at the same time.
After all they and their minions ( refs ) give you everything else.

In fairness to Donny he looked decent in a midfield 2 towards the end of last season. I’d give him a go against Newcastle and rest Pogba or Bruno.

James i think will become a good Premier league player just not with us. Disappointed to see him going to Leeds as I would like to wish him well. Just not there. Would rather he went somewhere like Brighton.
Lingard should have been sold months ago and the fact there is talk about him getting a new contract is just the issues with this club all over
Matic another who we should have got rid of aswell as Jones and Dalot. Mata should never have got a contract in my view but think they are lining him up for a coaching role
