Wtf everything he said is pretty much true, apart from him being 50% of what he was at his prime which is debatable.

Why do you watch every Juventus match?
----------------------------------------------------------------------
Almost. I have a Serie A package and I watch the big matches, not just Juve.
----------------------------------------------------------------------
Did Juve set up in a way that was solely focussed on supplying him? Or was he just the striker finishing the moves off like any other forward for another club?
I watched a video of all 36 goals he scored for them last season, and other than the pens (and headers), I was surprised at the lack of 'tap ins' tbh and more of them were shots from just inside the box at all angles, either cutting in, or receiving a pass and making a yard for himself before finishing it, pleasantly surprised.
----------------------------------------------------------------------
One of the headers sticks in my mind - it was an outstanding jump. Players may lose fitness, sharpness and pace - I'M NOT SAYING RONALDO HAS - but these players never lose their quality. Ronaldo undoubtedly has quality but we must wait and see how important he is. Top player, top pro.

I don't see him getting the space he enjoyed in Italy. Also, he used to score freekicks for fun, but now his freekick goals have virtually disappeared, I think he has only scored once in his last 72 freekicks. I'm not having a dig at him, and as I said I'm sure he will score a few beauties, but I just think some realism is imperative ahead of wild expectations.

I agree with you
My comment maybe unwarranted in this discussion, was on the general theme of pundits to want to disrespect utd in a way they don't with others. This isn't a new phenomenal and for me rather than getting worked up by such comments I simply see them as reminder of how great utd is
You would have to be dedicated Ronaldo fan boy to not appreciate the following about Ronaldo and his latest transfer to United:
At 36 he is obviously not the same player as he was in his development and prime at Man United and Real Madrid. This is despite him still being a very fit athlete for his age who clearly is obsessed with looking after his body.
He is also not, as some fanboys tout, either 'not human' or 'super human'. He is actually a human being. I dont agree with Merson he is 50% the player... but I know what he means.
I dont expect Ronaldo to play every game for United and i think he will be concentrated more on the big PL games and the CL by Ole.
Buying Ronaldo smacks against everything in the 'Plan' that Ed announced with Ole about United's new recruitment and contract policy with special attention on the Academy and youth development after he announced that the 'Spend and Sack' days under LVG and Jose were over.
United have bought Ronaldo I believe because the prospect of him signing for City and doing well would have been very damaging for the standing and reputation of Manchester United in World football. It would have been a major signal that City would have taken another huge step in closing the diminishing gap between the clubs. I also wouldnt bet against the fact that this is what City planned by showing interest in Ronaldo to force United to act.
No doubt that this signing has created a massive buzz about the Club that has been missing for years, something that i don't think was missed by the Glazers in sanctioning this transfer. Especially after the super league debacle and the demonstrations. And look how the value of their investment has now rocketed for them.
So lets hope that Ronny delivers now for all of us connected with the club.
People keep saying for his age when it comes to CR7
but the simple fact is CR7 is fitter at this moment than a player like Kane. He also spends less time on the physio table.
CR7 is clearly not a longterm investment, but in the short term I cannot think of anything kane/lukaku can offer that cr7 can't

He changed his style of play years ago and his current style of play is not anymore inhibited by his fitness than kane is by his fitness
he spends less time injured than kane and he is able to complete his role (at this moment) of being a goal scorer for club and country. So he is just as fit if not fitter right now than kane. His recovery ability given his age is another matter, hopefully this is never tested

How exactly are United worse off for having signed him?

I am not saying United are worse off. In fact in the short term we are probably better for it. Right now it's amazing the impact this deal has made on the image of United worldwide.
I am saying that because of the circumstances of this deal United have been 'diverted' onto another road that they might not have necessarily been following since Ole took over. And that could be City's cunning plan. Who knows if City would have actually signed Ronaldo and that Ronaldo would have agreed to go to City, if United hadn't have stepped in?
And who knows if there will be any stagnation in the development of the younger academy players who are currently breaking through into the first team with the likes of Ronny (and Cavani) as automatic first team picks. (These kids will of course massively benefit from Ronny's and Ed's presence at the club.. but there aint nothing like playing games for experience.
and btw I didn't say City pulled a cunning plan I said I wouldn't bet against it. City are a very smart club these days

This is more or less what I have heard too. City went to a meeting but realised they were being played. Ronaldo got his move. Good for him.

Merson is generally a complete moron but I struggle to see what he has said that is so wrong this time around. Prime Ronaldo was arguably the best player ever, to be 50% of that is still going to make him an elite player. Merson is spot on that he is a great role model to the kids and that Cavani is now going to find playing time limited
----------------------------------------------------------------------
Far from being a moron, Merson is a clever bloke.
----------------------------------------------------------------------
No, he is a moron with a big gob, he is just not wrong this time around
----------------------------------------------------------------------
Nope, clever

Just seen this, loom at just around 6 minutes in. Did Merson really say that on Sky lol and he is a pundit. He also thinks Kane would win us the league lol, someone who has never won a trophy vs a player who won the league in the last 3 seasons at Man Utd.
Mersons comments make zero sense first he is questioning whether Ronaldo can perform in the EPL at 36 then he is saying Man U must win the league because they signed the very person whose capability he is questioning.
Stunningly stupid
