Yeah I’m not sure Kounde is the answer, great on the ball but defensively and particularly aerially he is suspect. If Inter are in financial meltdown next summer then I would love to try and get Skriniar, with Romero and Sanchez we could have a formidable back 3
Skriniar is the one for me. He would be a bit of a game changer.
I still think it is up to the coach to get the best out of Sanchez though. He is a good player.
I also think this is a make or break season for Dier. He has shown himself to be good in spells but he needs to be consistent. His problem is that he makes 1 fairly serious mistake a game, and if he is punished for it, it means that he has played badly and if he isn't then we deem that he has played well. He now needs to concentrate on getting that mistake down to every 10 games.

Agreed, my fear for Dier and Sanchez is when they get over confident and start trying to dribble the ball or take too many touches. Case in point was Dier against wolves.
CBs should never carry the ball forward without signalling one of their CMs to fall back.
Skipp needs to keep an eye open for this.

I don't mind a CB going on a run at the right time, although I do think that the MF need to react to it and slot in as you say.
Ideally I'd have liked to have seen Romero and Toby partner for the season. That could have had the perfect blend. Now I expect it to be Dier and Romero which has potential but it could also go the other way.
Right now it is Sanchez and Dier in possession of the shirts though and it will be hard to dislodge them. Long may it continue!

I just don’t see Dier as a CB, he is strong and is good aerially, but he is slow, lacks agility and can’t read a game. Even with the clean sheets I would be looking to get Romero in there.
Skriniar is worse aerially than Kounde
The reported 68m is crazy.
On the defence in general, I think we'll be a lot better under a manager that doesn't put so much pressure on them with sitting so deep. And also Skipp. Hojbjerg definitely got worn out last season.

Those attributes make him an even worse candidate for any other position on the pitch
