Didn’t realise there would be three international breaks ffs
Stick a week on all of those for Sanchez, Romero and GLC to return. What about Emerson - is he in the Brazil squad?
----------------------------------------------------------------------
Yup three before mid November. What a nonsense.

I read that unless a deal can be struck with the UK Government (about quarantines) our South American players are highly likely to not feature in the Premier League with us before Christmas

It’s not like we’re going to miss GLC but Romero and Sanchez could be big misses
----------------------------------------------------------------------
It would be a complete disaster for Spurs, if both of those were missing for three months. Likely to be Spurs pairing going forward. GLC would not be a major miss, he hardly features anyway.
In terms of our start to the season I'd go with 4 out of 5. I've enjoyed how solid we've looked with everyone seemingly knowing their job and working hard for the team. Good work in the transfer market means a streamlined squad which can be useful too.
I know that 9 points from those particular three fixtures is a great haul but I do think it would be beneficial to see a game where we dominate and/or score freely. Keeping clean sheets is great but that will only sustain morale for so long.
5/10 for performances
9/10 for results
Ever the optimist I am hoping that Nuno has us focussing on our shape, our organisation and our defensive solidity before us becoming more expansive.
That said, even where the focus is on these areas it does not prevent a team from keeping better possession of the ball but to do so and to be more of an attacking threat you have to work on patterns of play.....with Jose seemingly ignoring this area for 18 months it may take some time for us to develop an identity which isnt just solid defence.
I kinda had this hope with Jose. It never really developed into a more attacking style. Lets hope it does with Nuno
10/10 results - that game in Portugal featured the weakest spurs line up in a decade, and I include friendlies in that. We got through the tie so it was irrelevant in the end.
8/10 performances, the only duff one other than in Portugal was Wolves away. We have a successful blue print with City and stuck with that. We dominated the Watford game but their keeper made 2 brilliant saves plus a howler - he saved more shots in that game than any other keeper this season.
Wolves we scored and then it was like the Mourinho era, we retreated into our shell and essentially looked to hold on - which we did of course.
Pacos at home - we battered them and could/should have scored more than 3.
Expectations - win our euro group, and progress to atleast the Quarters. Finish 5/6in the league. Push on again next season.
SO with South America its a requirement to quarantine for 10 days.
Argentina, Columbia & Brazil all play on Friday 10th. Even if they land in the UK the next day, 10 days quarantine means they cannot join the squad before 21st Sept, missing Palace (11th) Chelsea (19th ) may be back for Wolves in the EFL (22nd).
So back for Arsenal & Villa before another International break when they are scheduled to play on the 7th & 12th October (TBC). So back and then 10 days quarantine to 23rd, so missing Newcastle (17th) and may be West Ham (24th).
Able to play vs Man Utd (30th) and Everton (6th Nov) before another break.
Due to play on 11th & 16th Nov (TBC) so back and out of quarantine by 27th. Missing Leeds (20th) and probably Burnley (27th)
The big thing in all this is that currently the rules require quarantine, potentially in a hotel room so there is no ability to properly train, so a player returning from internationals will likely be in no shape to jump straight into a game and will not have trained with the team for weeks.
I have read these players may return via Croatia where they would stay for 10 days and be able to train before returning to the UK.
One of the issues is the public perception. It does not take much for some snowflakey keyboard warriors to get all irate about footballers playing by different covid rules, so any government relaxation may be unlikely.
Our Argentine players are only playing the first two so will go into quarantine around the 6th.
That would mean they would be available for the Chelsea game.
We don’t have anyone in the Brazil squad.
Although the Argentine manager disputes it and says they are available for all 3.

Yeah apparently there is some 'agreement' between the clubs and the national teams but it does sound abit ropey.
The only bit of good news is that covid deaths and cases are on the decline and around 60% of the Argentinians have been vacinated so hopefully by Oct they could be downgraded to Amber. Fingers crossed.
Could see Rodon and Dier playing CB against Palace.

Our players will have been double vaccinated and have quick access to lateral flow and PCR tests. What is the point of investing in all these things if we still have the hindrance of quarantine. We should tell the argie manager to fack off and manage without them, unless he wants to pay their wages out of his own pocket while they’re unavailable to us.
----------------------------------------------------------------------
They will just run to FIFA and we get fined or something else from them.
Have you actually considered what it means to the players to play for their national team?
i understand the argentina players wanting to desperately play against brazil.
sanchez with colombia we should just say you cant go. you are contracted to spurs and right now he is part of the tightest defence in the prem.... and we need him for the chelsea game.

You really want Sanchez to turn down playing for his country. You know he is Columbian right? They will send a hit man over here to put a bullet in his head.
One way of dropping him I suppose...

Pre-covid of course I do, but these are unprecedented times and as such you - as in the players - have to apply a bit of pragmatism to the situation, accept that it’s disappointing but there will be plenty more opportunities in the future and get over it. Everyone is having to make sacrifices right now.
----------------------------------------------------------------------
So if you were a player you would sacrifrice playing for your country and helping them get to the world cup for some premier league games?
In fact don't answer.

On the one hand, there are far fewer opportunities in international football that in the club game.
On the other, millions more people in every country are invested in their country's national team than in any individual club.
And it's not all negatives for the clubs either. The Premier League wants a worldwide exposure they wouldn't get if they didn't recruit football stars from all over the planet. They have to take the rough with the smooth.
Imagine turning down playing for your country trying to qualify for a world cup. If the country qualifies, the manager is well within his rights to say...GLC and Romero were not prepared to play for us but I got 22 other lads who did. Feck them and feck their dreams.
Now you can put your feet up in winter and summer and play for your beloved club. Enjoy your next trip to Argentina lads. The locals can't wait to see you
