How good are Rennes? They're in Ligue 1 so they can't be that bad. I don't think we should go that experimental as, honestly, we're nailed on to get an absolute mauling on Sunday, whatever side is put out.
Gonna go against the grain on this one and say no one who is expected to play a part at Chelsea should start.
I'm really not bothered about this competition at all but it is a great chance to blood some young players and keep squad players getting minutes.
This is the hardest game on paper, we'll easily win both games against the other two teams in the group so result tonight really does not matter one bit.
Would like to see Gil, Scarlett, Gollini, Doherty etc.

Kane
Markanday/Scarlett Gil Lucas
Ndombele Hojbjerg
Davies Rodon Tanganga Doherty
Gollini
----------------------------------------------------------------------
Simple thing in any formation is count how many players carry a goal threat. If its less than 5 then you are defensive.
----------------------------------------------------------------------
It's less than 5 what every formation or players you pick
----------------------------------------------------------------------
shows how reliant we are on Kane and Son
----------------------------------------------------------------------
Ridiculously reliant. Dele should be getting 10 goals a season and offers nothing else. Lucas doesn't score enough, Bergwijn doesn't score. Goal scorers from U23s should be fast tracked if our established players are productive.

What do we stand to gain from prioritising the league game against Chelsea? I would have agreed with you a few years ago as we had a CL place to protect. Realistically we have zero chance of usurping City, United, Chelsea and Liverpool. They've all jumped so far away from everyone else in terms of quality that those four positions are sewn up, albeit in a mixed order. By prioritising the Chelsea game, we're basically scrambling for a a Europa League spot at the end of the year, the same prize for winning the Conference League. I don't agree that we should be playing a hugely understrength side at all. We don't really have anything to play for of value in the league anymore.

Sounds optimistic but I dont think Man U under Ole and Liverpool have that much depth upfront to challenge on all fronts. They too will suffer dips in form. All depends if Kane and Son stay fit for us
Even the kickoff time is rubbish
The way I see it the ECL is a chance to give some of the fringe players a go but I don't want to see an U23 team. We could get proper embarrassed if we don't take it seriously. Every team in it will be desperate to beat us.

I think they're partially responsible but those top four have just kicked on financially. Not so much Liverpool but they were already there. United and Chelsea were the chasing pack, now they're contenders. Even under Poch in his prime Spurs years would struggle to get top 4 against that financial power.
Everyone keeps banging on about it being a competitive league this but that only applies regarding who, out of those four, can win it. I don't think it's competitive at all beyond that. It's frightening. We're likely already out of the top four race and we've barely kicked a ball.
Liverpool got lucky with the Coutinho fee paying for VVD and Allison. If we'd got 160m for Eriksen things might've been different. And Barca might not actually be so terrible.
