I think he’ll leave for free. He wants that one last big contract which he won’t be getting at Chelsea.

I agree with you TLLL.
It's a shame really, as his current salary £100k/week is a decent wage and Chelsea are offering him a pay rise on top of that.
Will he really get a better footballing situation than he has now at Chelsea, or is ridiculous money a better option for him over the quality of football. I know which I would choose in his position.

Another one I don't understand. I know he wants to double up to180,000 a week which I don't think is that much considering Chilwell is earning more than that and Kounde would be on about that too. He's an influential player who we should be looking to tie down for 5 years - and he'd still have a sale value if it didn't workout. Thiago and Azpi are getting on a bit and we should be looking to strengthen defence, not lose players. Give him the money.

I've been told (rightly or wrongly) that he wants 200k a week and is determined to leave if he doesn't get it. He's playing brilliantly and personally I'm a big fan of his, but is he worth 200k a week? I don't know but I would like to keep him if it's possible.

Whatever happens you can rest assured that Marina will do what is best for the Club.

As I said, anyone coming in would require a transfer fee and a high wage. He's one of the leaders of the team, he was treated rather badly by Lamps and probably deserves a higher wage.

I would want to keep him for almost whatever price he wants. Imo I wouldn’t bat an eyelid if he’s one of the highest paid players in the squad, it’s quite underrated/understated how key and good he is.

But I’ve always had a feeling he’ll go soon, rather than stay here till his 30s. I can see a lot of clubs, particularly Bayern, really wanting him and Rudiger wanting to accept the challenge,

I'll be gutted if we let Rudi go, he's a super important player for us. His performance in the CL Final summed him up. He's still got plenty to offer over the next few years. Just give him what he wants, he's earned it.

I'd be very wary offering him over 150k/w. He's a great assist in-form but he's not a player you can depend on to grind through competent performances in bad spells, and at 28 y/o the risk to reward ratio doesn't sit well with me.

I'd say for every 10k above 150k/w we should be taking a year off the extension.

Top 2 cb the last 12 months. Top 3 cb in the league before lampard came in. Be very disappointing if he left

200k p/w? A big NO NO!
There's much at stake offering Rudiger a hefty salary increase...

When it comes to considering his injury record, Rudiger has had a lot of damaging injuries (relating to his knees) they can give way anytime with the intensity, high-octane nature of his playing/running style and stress that he puts on his knees, already feels like he's hitting his top potential ceiling at present...can go south very quickly.
Knees are a ticking timebomb. Volatile.
Downsides outweighs the upsides.

Club are in the right to err on the side of caution and I'm sure they've taken that into account when presenting the alleged (sensible) offer of 150k p/w rather than give in to his demands of doubling wages.

Fortunately we're not in a desperate situation on the CB front, that allows Rudiger to force our hand and give in to his demands.
Christensen our most important CB will 100% extend his contract, Kounde will probably sign (in January or agreement to sign for next season) on significantly less wages than what Rudiger is demanding, Chalobah has emerged and Colwell on-loan coming through on our books.
The latter is an aggressive left-footer and a pressing requirement, which needed addressing in the long-run.

That's without even mentioning Ampadu, Reece and Azpi (maybe extends by a further year or two).

I've got a lot of time for Rudi, and when he's on top form,he's a super player, but, as mentioned,he has had some injury problems which could recur at any time, and we have good cover in that position .Another thing to mention, without being cynical,is that it's amazing how his form has really shot up during during the new contract negotiations !

We are not as well served for centre backs as you all seem to think. Azpi and Thiago are getting old, Christensen can only play as a 3 and for Chalobah it is too early to tell. Kounde will also be on very high wages if he signs. We don't lose transfer and as many agents and signing on fees with a Rudiger renewal. Apart from that, he is one of our best 3 players.

I don’t think it has tbh harl! I thought before under Sarri he was a top 3 cb in the league with vvd and Laporte that year

Got to keep Rudi, he is central to us having the best defence in the league. I too would be gutted if he left. Pay him what he deserves.

Good point via his injury record, forgot that.

Yeah it does feel like it might be a mistake tbh, too much risk involved. 150k/w but with hefty appearances bonuses might be the reasonable compromise.

I really hope he signs an extension, and this is just part of his agent’s negotiation. If Marina is worried about giving him too much in the way of wages, but they could structure it differently with a higher signing fee upfront and lower wages. It would be silly to lose him over money - he’s playing really well and is obviously comfortable at the club, and Tuchel likes him. Come on Marina - make it happen.
