No reason why you can’t come 5th. You’ve multi million pound players in most positions on the pitch.
I feel it goes a little under the radar how much Spurs have actually spent in the last few years.
----------------------------------------------------------------------
You are quite right, it does get forgotten, by yourself as well seemingly. We are 17th for net spend - that’s less than Burnley. Even gross spend we have only spent £50m more than Newcastle and their fans give Ashley pellets for how bad they are.
We do not spend enough money and that’s what is holding us back.
https://www.transferleague.co.uk/premier-league-last-five-seasons/transfer-league-tables/premier-league-table-last-five-seasons
----------------------------------------------------------------------
The net argument spend is an easy one to throw around. That graph also shows you’re the 7th biggest spenders in that period.
----------------------------------------------------------------------
Yeah 7th, so I would say there are a few million reasons why 5th is likely beyond us. I would say net spend is very relevant - ours isn’t low because we got a huge Coutinho style fee for a player, it’s low because we don’t spend much. We’re supposed to be one of the “big 6” but our spend does not back that up.

I was much more tolerant of Poch’s slow start. Partly because I’d been calling for him as our coach for a while, when most were wanting LVG. Backing your guy and all that. But also, having seen what he’d done with Southampton - their strong defence, fitness, aggressive pressing and attractive football, as well as an 8th place finish, all just 18 months in taking over from Adkins, I knew he was on his way up and could do the same with us.
He had to root out a lot of bad apples, but we saw in the second half of the season a strong run of form that took us to 5th, an EFL final, a great NLD win (Kane header), sticking 5 past champions elect Chelsea. Next season we finished 3rd.
I’m don’t see the same potential for that level of upward curve in Nuno. We didn’t have to snare him from Wolves, they let him go as he’d run his course. He’d just had a pretty poor season too, nothing like the season Poch had just had at Saints. Nuno first play the same good football, and he isn’t a guy on the up. For me, unless he hits the ground running (within reason) it won’t happen for him here at all.
----------------------------------------------------------------------
Same here for me regarding Poch. My manager of preference around that time was Benitez but when we started getting linked to Poch I was open to that and warmed to Poch more from the job he had been doing with Southampton in terms of getting them in the top half of the table, getting his players looking fitter than ever, and becoming a hard to beat team. He was a manager on the up and playing attractive football. These were two things not evident of Nuno when we got him.
Of course Nuno still deserves more time as would any manager. I would have even given AVB more time when he was sacked. Every manager deserves time to at least mould the team into HIS team.
Some say 6th...
some say 7th...
some say top 10.....
but nobody mentions anything higher.......
and nobody dares breath about the possibility of lower!
I'm of the mind that the team of just a few years ago, that had Rose and Walker barrelling down the wings and a young Harry Kane banging them in...could have won the Prem, but just could not catch Leicester.
And I see the wheels coming off the squad and manager we have now. Discontent. Kane wants out.
Son's not fit.
The back four are not together....yet!
I have no predictions yet....I will wait and see what happens with Wolves and Arsenal.
I'm looking more forward to Paratici transfer windows. Nuno needs 2/3 windows before the knives come out. Hope he gets it even though some fans against him already.
Camt help but think if he stuck to his 3 at the back he might get better results and keep us in contention

That depends purely on results and brand of football.
Joseball MKII will not be tolerated by the fans for another two or three windows, no chance. Results that have us floundering around 9th/10th will not be tolerated by Levy, especially when Nuno wasn’t the number one guy to begin with.
----------------------------------------------------------------------
Yeah but at what point does that bald priiick start taking responsibility. Our spending is ridiculously low, we have a fetish for defensively shiiite full backs and we never have a permanent back up for Kane.
Nuno should be given until Xmas, we are a shiiit show that needs time

We have a new backline plus Ndombele Lo Celso and Hojberg that's 7 players that should be playing a progressive style of football...Surely there's no excuse to be playing stagnant Jose hangover football?
It all leads to a back 3 for me. Nuno should accept we have better personnel for a 352
Leave 3 CBs in our half. The other 7 press opposition in their half.

I’ve got a bet on with Sandy that we will finish 15th or lower.
He will owe me a grand if I’m right, I’ll owe him a tenner if I’m wrong.
Losing 3-0 to average sides like palace starts to make me think my half joke might be on…

Don’t think we are quite 15th bad, but wouldn’t be surprised to see us finish 10th, which lets be honest is truly awful. I don’t think this team is that good at all and when you have our only true top players not on it (Kane and Son) we literally have nothing. I’m still sticking with my prediction of 9th. I think Westham and Leicester are definitely better than us. We could easily finish below any of Everton, Villa or Arsenal this season to, as we are certainly no better than any of those 3

If Potter finishes above us with Brighton then Paratici wants sacking for gross incompetence after intelligent fans were calling for him as coach and he picks Nuno.

Did Potter have a release clause? Or you just speculating to justify a sacking?

I think matching Chelsea up with a back 3 was the clearest opportunity he got to play that system and he chose not to, so I doubt he’ll be looking to do that at all (even tho I personally would like him to). The 433 is so narrow especially with the personnel he plays. The width comes from the two attacking wide men but if they are drifting in and cutting in then that’s it, everyone’s central. And if he doesn’t play Ndombele the middle three are so flat it’s basically like a back 7, hence the brand of football.
As I’ve said already, the fans had had enough of Joseball just from watching it on TV, Jose was lucky the stadium was empty throughout 80% of his tenure, they won’t be accepting another indefinite period of it. Jose has indirectly ensured Nuno won’t get as much patience as he might’ve in other circumstances.
