What worries me slightly still is that we seem to lose control of games.

Rennes, us totally dominant then they get a foot hold, get a goal and we struggle to get the ball back and dominate

Chelsea, great first half but CFC upped it in the 2nd half, and we barely had decent possession for 20 minutes by which time they were 2-0 up.

Wolves - 2-0 up, playing well controlling things but start to lose control and Wolves then dominate for a while and get back into the game, they also started the 2nd half in control. We wrestled it back in the end and probably ended stronger but these moments are costing us.

Arsenal will keep possession well. How much they can do with it has been their issue but we cannot concede too much possession as it only invites problems.

I really hope Nuno adopts the same game plan he did for the first three games on Sunday. Soak up pressure and hit them on the break. Couldn't give a t0$$ about attacking football because with our team and history it will end in tears.

Plus the same people who have critisized Nuno for not being attacking enough will only critisize him for not being able to defend when we start shipping in goals.

They want everything from a team who are no equipped to play expansive football. That's on Levy and Paratici.
----------------------------------------------------------------------
What a total strawman. I was crying out for attacking football and have been defending the chelsea and wolves performances - not jumping on Nuno for the 5 goals conceded.

Those 2 first halves are the best football we've played in ages and playing like that gives us a much better chance of winning than the lucky 1-0 wins we got in the opening 3 games.

This football isn't just more enjoyable it's more sustainable.
----------------------------------------------------------------------
Not if we leak goals it isn't.

Can somebody highlight we Gil was playing last night?

And the game plan for the first three games won't work if we don't get lucky and score and our defence can't cope with the pressure, we can all play the hypothetical game.

But I think it's pretty obvious that we're much more likely to win playing like we did yesterday than by winning 1-0 from a penalty or from a cross that's gone in. For everyone of those games there would have been a palace performance, I'm glad we've moved away from that style pronto after that shiiitshow.

And for everyone of the games where we playing attacking football neglecting the solidity of a strong midfield we will lose 3 nil to Chelsea and give up leads like we did against Rennes and a Wolves B team.

I think you're making your conclusions based entirely off of the results. We were very unlucky not to win last nights game in regular time. And we're only going to get better at this style of football as we get fitter.

The midfield we played last night isn't even frail defensively - Dele and Skipp are fantastic defensively and Tanguy is fine. It's not like we were hemorrhaging chances.

Tanguy is fine.

Is fine good enough when he attempts a poor flakey flick when defending a corner or conceded possession on the halfway line to give another goal away?

And don't give me any excuses of Skipp selling him down a river. His first touch was poor which lead to the Wolves player pouncing on him to dispossess the ball.

Anyway, Dier will be back for Sunday so we are bound to concede.

Having read through this post, I have to say I am amazed at, not only the level of negativity, but the level of opinion that we are still such a top, top team, that how dare we actually lose games or play poorly.

Guys, come on. Nuno is not getting sacked after 5 league games and a handful of cup games, in two competitions that we have not actually been knocked out of yet.

Some facts / home truths:

1. Spurs have been is a mess long before Nuno got here. We have been going backwards since the end of the 2017/18 season, due mainly to Levy and his lack of ambition and a basic knowledge of not standing still in football.

2. Jose, as he did at Utd, virtually destroyed the club, and we have come out of his rein in tatters. This, like Utd, will take time to come back from. Yeah, we can all blame Levy ( again ) for this appointment, but it is hardly Nuno's fault.

3. Even at out best ( 2015 to 2108 ) we did not win anything. In this age of money, there will always be better teams than us. Yet some of us keep thinking / acting like we should be up there with the best.
News flash: we are not, and acually teams like Wolves are nearer our level at present.

4. Kane, our best player, was more or less mentally destroyed over the Summer, in my opinion, mainly due to the media and their incessant looking for a sensational story at any cost. He may well have been looking for a move to City, but with the level of focus throughout the summer, it will effect anyone. I would not expect Kane to get back to where he was form wise, anytime soon ( if at all ) The guy's head has been turned every which way. That is partly on him ( and his brother ) but mainly on the media.

5. Yes, like everyone else, I can easily pick holes in every aspect of our squad, but let's be realistic, even if Levy were prepared to spend sack loads, and get guidance from people that actually know a good player when they see one, upgrading this squad to the levels that match some of your misguided aspirations as to what level Spurs should be at ( right now ) would require an actual miracle of biblical enormity, on the same level as feeding the 5000, or parting the waves.

The sooner some of you get some grasp of reality, the sooner you may, just may, be able to come away from a game still enjoying football.

----------------------------------------------------------------------
The reality is this club will never compete at the very top and for the top prizes, consistently under ENIC.

We need new owners who have the required ambition, and I don`t care who they are, the organic route of ENIC will not work any time soon, if we can not beat them, then join them in my opinion.
----------------------------------------------------------------------
I agree, but finding a billionaire who actually has a passion for football and wants to see real progress on the pitch as his / her/ their main ambition is extremely hard to find. Yeah Chelsea and City got lucky, but it is still highly improbable.
Like you I want the best for my team, but my issue is with the many Spurs fans who clearly have aspirations way above where this club actually is. And beating their head against a wall every time we don't thrash some other team, blaming a manager who has been in the job for five minutes is not the way forward.

Nuno is totally immune from the sack for the simple reason that nobody any good wants to work with this squad or for a guy like Levy

5th choice manager coaching a 3rd rate squad

Sacking Jose when he did was simply cheap Levy trying to save money, appointing Nuno (Jose lite) was just laughable

I think the reality is some pragmatism will come into play here.

Its an away game. Its the NLD. So yes we will want to win and try to win but actually avoiding defeat is probably best all round

How do we achieve this?

Hopefully Nuno is bright enough to see that the first 3 games were effective but this cannot be a long term plan as playing for 1-nils is not what modern football is about. Every team can cause you problems (ok, may be not Norwich) just through hard work, pressing and making life difficult while posing a counter attacking threat.

The defeats have not, IMO, been as a result of an open attacking approach to the game.

Palace was just a rank awful game and we did infact start with 3 DM.

Cheslea exploited our inability to retain possession, they pinned us back and pressurised us. And their goals were a corner (that has to stop by the way!! another last night) and a deflection. We lacked the quality to break from their pressure and get good possession, not because we were open and were caught out.

Last night was again individual errors which just gives the opponents a leg up when, at the time of the first goal, we were in reasonable control.

Yes, if Skipp plays instead on NDombele then we may be more solid but actually this just invites pressure as our ball retention and control will suffer.

To me the greater solidity comes from how your full backs are involved. In away games this will be more circumspect.

I would expect to see us do a bit of a Jose, have Tanganga being quite restrained, acting as a bit of a 3rd CB as Reggie pushes on (like he did with Aurier/Davies, but because Aurier was a poor defender and Davies a poor attacker). It works better if Bergwijn or even Lucas is the wide right, rather than GLC, but it keeps us as a 3133 when in possession, easily changes to a 451 without.

Aren’t PSG top of the league with 7 wins from 7 games?
----------------------------------------------------------------------

So they should be. Have you watched them lately? It's poor. And the owners want the CL. Scraping a draw against Brugge with Mbappe Neymar Messi ain't gonna cut it

Whether we like him or not, Nuno should be afforded at least a season, unless we look in danger of getting relegated, which isn't going to happen.
