Very much like Mel he had some near misses for promotion, including the total robbery at Wembley thanks to idiot referee Roger Milford. I hope he had a lingering death..
good grief.... what an absolute shiiiit stain you are
I was jokingly referring to Roger Milford who as far as I know could be still alive. I wasn't referring to Lionel who unfortunately did have a lingering death. As shiitstain, my analhyegeine is almost up to poornstar standard.
Nice one Spart! (Like you, my support span runs from Longson and a bit earlier, through to Morris.)
I think the main trouble with Sam was that his two short planks went missing!
You forgot to add Hardy (forgotten his first name) to the list. I'm pretty sure he sacked Dave Mackay and brought in Tommy Docherty who went on, amid various rumours including the word "bungs", to destroy the club by selling our best players and bringing in dross, eg Roy Greenwood.
I refuse to say anything bad about Lionel. He did all he could and more!
The three amigos are best forgotten.
I have already posted (twice) what I think of Maxwell.
As to Mel, I think we are too close at present to make a judgement. Things need to settle down and muddy waters need to clear. Posterity will have a good look at him but for now, well, he did lots of good things but lots of bad as well.
Anyway, I'm now opening the gold envelope and the winner is: Maxwell!
Has to be Longstone, I think some of the latter have potentially been worse, but he set the bar pretty low by killing the golden goose that became the enabler for all the other clowns to follow. Pickering did his best for the club I think and he at least went financially down with the ship.
Longson even, well I was only 8 at the time😀
Longson used to regularly overtake our school bus in the mid-seventies en-route from Chapel-en-le-Frith to Derby.
Always in a Merc SL IIRC.
I worked with one of his nephews who although a pleasant enough bloke, was as thick as pig5hit.
No chairman as asset stripped the club as much as Mel Morris.
I don’t like Maxwell but I’m grateful to him for saving Derby from going bust and taking the club from 7 th in the 3rd Div yo 5th in the first. 1 of the few owners we’ve had who left the club in a better place than when he took over

Don't know how you can say that Griff as I'm pretty sure we were relegated right at the end of his tenure. He did authorise the signings of Shilton and Wright but what a palava there was around those deals! They seemed to take forever and be concluded with much reluctance albeit ultimately, fanfare as everything was about M's ego and image. Yes he did take us over when in dire straits but I was totally uneasy during his whole time and he definitely did his own asset-stripping when selling Wright and Saunders (to Liverpool?) I thought he was a repulsive character and I was far happier to see him go than arrive!
I was happy when he went but he did save the club and he sold the club on when it had been relegated to Div 2 but he took the club on when it had been relegated to div 3 and nearly folded so I’m right in saying he left the club in a better situation than when he took it on.
Maxwell is deffo the worst, a repulsive creature.
Longson was an idiot to push Clough and Taylor out when they had produced a wonderful team and we were top of the league and as Spart says we would have several stars on our shirts and Notts Forest none.
But at least Longson brought Clough and Taylor to the club, if they hadn't come we would be like Bury or Grimsby.
Surprised no one has chosen the 3 amigos as they were the only people to own the club who had malevolent intentions from the start. .
Sam Longson...yes I remember him from when I first started watching Derby. He disliked Clough and Taylor because they became more popular than him. I remember him coming onto the pitch not long after Clough and Taylor left. Then the crowd started roaring and cheering - he thought it was for him...but little did he know Messrs Clough & Taylor had appeared to wave to the crowd from the Main Stand....happy days eh....
Tell you what would be the worst, if wishes of small majority of DCFC fans came true who are wishing for Mike Ashley to take over at the club.
I see what you are trying to say Griff, based on league status, but financially better off?
comment by Spart-Derby really are the best says red dog. (U4603)

Good point Spart although I'm not sure if it was true of all three.
Club was in fairly rag order when the amigos took it on and not much different when they left. They were so incompetent that they couldn’t even damage things properly

.... and they got caught.
There are not many lags in prison for corporate fraud.
Remains to be seen exactly how much damage the most recent owner has inflicted, but defrauding the club and getting an 18 month sentence? Thanks Jeremy Keith
Newcastle fans are cheering in the street because a murderer has bought the club. Fit and proper is a real joke.
It's really depressing. What gets me is the hypocrisy of people like Shearer, who are happy enough to play the morality card when it will benefit their public profile but who will trumpet about what a great era this is for Newcastle because he knows that will play well with the fans.
Whatever Mel's faults, I don't think he has resorted to having Richard Keogh strangled and chopped to bits.
Although if 666 had his way............
On the Jeremy Vine show a disgruntled Newcastle supporter suggested that they could do a couple of be-headings for half time entertainment.
I agree with Spart and Vidal and will women and ga ys be allowed to go to games? Shearer was a good player but is a nasty piece of work, bloody hypocrite.
