I've never voted Tory.
Good luck to Rashford. I just thought it would be nice if he could get everybody else congratulated when he grabs these accolades. It's a team effort. Surely his PR team have put in just as much work?
----------------------------------------------------------------------
What a sour faced individual
----------------------------------------------------------------------
If he keeps his head down he could well be on the way for a knighthood. Beckham was on target with all his charitable work until his masked slipped with those emails. If Rashford can keep any slip ups to a minimum he'll be Sir. Marcrus before he hangs up his boots.
Amazing that when a private citizen without any sort of political mandate goes above and beyond in his downtime to get work that politicians should be doing done, he’s recognised as a credit to society by the same feckless politicians with the actual mandate and the responsibility
Just do your facking jobs, you useless priiiiks.

At the end of the day, Rashford has achieved more than he will ever achieve in football by getting poor kids fed when a sociopathic government wouldn’t have done it otherwise. If in turn he gets an honorary degree for his trouble then I can’t see why anyone would have an issue with that.

He's just brilliant. A young, black man with an unprivileged background who plays football for a living and has made himself a millionaire who runs rings around the government by calling for decency and kindness.
No wonder they hate him, he's every part of their worst nightmares.

Definitely which is why their campaign (which is working as seen on here) to turn working class person against working class person is such an evil thing to do.
That Rupert Murdoch meme with the cookies is so apt.

It's the politics of Divide And Rule. Which is as old as the hills and something that ruling Conservatives in the UK have always been very keen on.

You do put a lot of emphasis on his PR team. Please enlighten us who they are, how many are there, where did you get the information, can you 'out' them so we all think of Marcus differently.
Currently he is generally thought of as a talented footballer who had a hard begining.
Then during covid the government was not prepared to give free school meals to the poorest family. Marcus, because of his background, thought this unfair and said so.
Because of his fame this was news, got in all the papers and so the government changed policy.
In many peoples eyes this made Marcus admirable, but not yours obviously, so you must have some insider stuff to share with us.
What possible reason could someone have to dislike Marcus Rashford (outside of the team that he plays football for)?
I'm all ears.

Of course, Irish, I wouldn't take it that way
I honestly think there's an element of ingrained racism in some of the criticism, the type that isn't explicitly articulated, but silently held that black people should know their place. Probably explains all the "he should be thanking his PR team" type comments.
Not because his national fame now significantly outstrips his on field achievements? Or because, despite many famous people being positioned to speak out against national poverty, he has become one of the foremost faces of it?
I would have assumed that it's more from a place of cynicism than from racism, no?
For my 2 cents I become exasperated often with things that BBC news decides I must read at length about. I have no problem with Rushford but I am bored of reading about it. I should probably stop browsing the news as often, as this is partly just my problem to deal with

So to be able to speak out on poverty, some people feel he has to have won more trophies?
I'm not getting into that aspect of the argument as I don't support it. However being more famous doesn't hurt exposure to your words and opinions
