Liverpool super doped? They have a very low net spend over the last decade, less than Spurs over the last 5 years.

Just pure bitterness...If Spurs don't win something in Kane's time, they never will in the immediate future

How can we win a trophy if we can't attract the players to win one and our best player wants to jump ship because he's not playing in that competition? Surely a spring board to success is playing in the champions League regularly rather than a cup win. What have the FA cup wins done for Arsenal? Even more so in the current climate, a top 4 place is everything.

This is just one of those things people say. I remember the year Liverpool finished second under Rogers similar comments being made, that if Liverpool couldn’t win the league from the position they were in and with a player like Suarez they never would, and look at that them now.

It is kind of sad how the CL has turned a lot of fans into corporate minded, penny counting fools.

----------------------------------------------------------------------

Its hardly penny counting. Our 2019 UCL run earned us £90m in tv and prize money, not to mention matchday revenues.

Its the sort of money that makes it more and more likely that you will win 1, 2, 3 or more trophies
----------------------------------------------------------------------
Remind me how that improved us as a team

Silver ware of course 100%, champions league spots will be nearly impossible for Spurs
----------------------------------------------------------------------
Recent history suggests trophies are impossible for Spurs, not a CL place...
----------------------------------------------------------------------
With the super doped clubs of city, Chelsea, utd, Liverpool, now Newcastle, how many top 4 spots can you see for Spurs in the next 20 years
----------------------------------------------------------------------
How are United doped? The cost of interest to United from the loan the owners bought the club for is at £704m. Around £244m of the debt has been paid off, while the club has also paid £125m to Glazer family members in dividends. They haven't put a penny in.

There's only one dope here

Much better run club than Spurs, dont have Levy in charge, massive advantage

If a League Cup win this season or Champions League football next season was on the table right now, I'd be amazed if fans went for the cup. I don't buy that.

It does sound back to front but in our circumstances I think a decent trophy will do us more good in the long run. I do not mind the Europa as a comp. those who turn their nose up at it are also turning their noses up at a large chunk of our history

The four straight CL qualifications under Poch should have improved us as a team, and certainly offered motte potential for growth than a solitary cup win, but unfortunately we never took advantage of it.

That said, for this very reason I would always take top four over a cup win - in so much as it provides a greater potential platform for growth and definitely provides more income. Whether the club take advantage of that is an entirely other matter.

Also I don’t say this with any particular joy, it’s just the way it is. The sad reality is that both the PL and CL have devalued other cup competitions to the point where they have been stripped of any real value. The FA Cup in particular is a real sorry shadow of the competition that it was when I was a kid.

To be fair can you see us getting a champions league spot, because I think we are light years away, that's why I say Silverware

we have to get back into the CL if we can. that would be the best thing for the club in terms of moving us forward.

however, we are starved of trophies as fans, and a cup would be nice. but not at the expense of CL place (with where we are in our development at the moment).

if you offered me 5th and a cup right now, however, I would take it, as I dont think we will get top 4, and the above would represent a good season.

Liverpool are amongst the top 2 biggest clubs in the country.... their whole setup, prestige, and level of player they can attract in and out of europs is completely different. even during there lean times they were still competing towards the top end of the prem.

our lean times of the modern era have had us fighting relegation battles.

Yea we need CL trophy to build on so then we can go and win trophies. Let's not bother about trophies now. Why win trophies now when you can build towards winning trophies later on.

Fans confuse me.

You can't win trophies now though. You haven't been able to since 2008! The closest you came was... the Champions League

Nah

It's all hypothetical. There's doubt that regular champions league football is required for the progression of the club. Everybody's been banging on about ambition for the club but are happy to settle for a League cup. What do you get for a League cup? I don't know about anybody else but I want to be back in the Stadium on a Tuesday or Wednesday night watching the cream. Champions league put us on the map, we can all see what years outside of it can do to a team. We think it's bad now.

The history of our club has been winning cups. I know that's not true of recent era, but it's something we used to be proud of. Spurs fans should always aim for trophies/cups. This obsession with top 4 is nothing but corporate brainwash.

It's not an obsession it's a necessity. Like it or lump it. We've moved on. If we want to be paying top dollar for players in their prime that will get us over the line during the biggest moments. We need to be in the top competitions. We're not even talking about attracting the right manager.

The truth is you should be aiming for both, and most clubs who win trophies also end up at least in the fight for top 4.

Regular CL under the stewardship of ENIC just got even harder, in 2 or 3 years time the CL places will be made up Man City, Chelsea, Newcastle and 1 of Spurs, Arsenal, United, Pool or maybe Everton. 4 or 5 clubs competing for 1 CL place. Spurs may as well focus on the cups, because CL is becoming increasingly unlikely.

posted on 12/10/21

If we go down the route of only focusing on cups we'll be even further away to winning one.
