Just sound bites, they've been saying that since last season. Nothing changes until you get a new manager.

We do Paul. We need to change your club. 6 years of performances like today under two different managers. Can't handle any pressing whatsoever.
he is 100% right but I know many will single him out
for me the key word for me is "we", as in the collective not the individual. I said it years ago that we could have messi in utd and still be shambolic. It was a tounge in cheek statement but lttle did I know we will get CR7 and still be shambolic.
I was lucky to watch the original galacticos and quickly understood the assembly of the best players does not necessarily yield the best results unless they are able to function as a collective.

when we were initially linked to pogba I watched is every game at Juve as my flatmate was Juve fan. He was never the cm to sit and control games we needed and I said as much. The analogy I will use is a man buying a car built for race tracks to use on a rugged terrain and then blaming the car for not performing like a 4x4
that is exactly what utd have done with pogba

True
Question - on the basis that Ole is manager.
If we had also bought a top CDM (literally top draw could play in any team) in the summer or maybe got one in January, do people think that our fragility, inconsistency and inability to control games would remain?
Is that obvious missing piece still a fair justification for our up and down performances? Or would it still be the same even if we had Roy Gattusieira? i.e. down to Ole & staff?

I think we'd still struggle. The team look like strangers on the pitch nearly every game, regardless of personnel. You could give Ole and the lads the Man City or Liverpool squads and they would be disjointed
We still wouldn’t play well enough as a team even with this mythical defensive midfielder. Nearly three years in the job and we still look like a group of individuals.

this is actually a very good question
I have been advocating that we bought a cdm probably longer thananyone here. In truth I believe a top cdm is the brains on the pitch and can make up for a lot of deficiencies that might exist in a team.
If I was a manager this will be my most important position.
I honestly believe a top cdm will improve us more than any other player could. be it messi, mbape halland. How much more I am not sure
I think you both might be right. We don’t play as a TEAM often enough, it’s something we’ve lacked since SAF.
Changing managers as often as we did (Ole aside he’s been given a very fair term) and chopping and changing so many players also was the main cause of this for me but seeing as it’s still the case now even with a relatively consistent team and same management for a while - I don’t know wtf it is. It could currently be due to Ole & staff as he’s really had the longest run vs the others right? Whereas the others had to inherit clear out, buy new, change philosophy etc.
All 3 (forgetting Moyesy tbh) had same issues to deal with and none of them have ended their time with us being happy, playing good football etc. We all wanted LVG & Jose to go and might be heading the same way for Ole.
Was talking to a chelsea mate of mine and I said to him one of the most impressive things about Chelsea is their ability over the past 10-13 years say to chop and change so much but still mostly perform well, be successful and win things. They play like a team regardless of what’s going on (I don’t watch them weekly so maybe be wrong) but they’re (generally over last ten years) everything we lack imo.
It’s because Chelsea are generally quick to try and rectify their errors. They make a lot of them, both in terms of management and squad building, but don’t let things fester. They sack the manager and either flog the players that are obvious mistakes, or loan them out for years.
