No idea how we’re doing in this competition!

Whole first team left at home

Gil Scarlett Bergwijn
Lo Celso Winks Dele
Davies Rodon Sanchez Tanganga
Gollini

Lucky 1-1 and I'd take it with that side

I read Nuno isn't taking any of the starting X1 from the weekend.

Good call imo. See if the squad players can get the job done in the early stages, then can always bring the big boys back later on if they can't.

Would rather go strong in the league cup than this tournament.

it will be a first if the squad players do get a win away, would say this is more important that league cup as winner qualifies for europa

Stupid decision, again.

Nuno really needs to start understanding.

1. Our reserve team can't beat anyone. Let's please not go down the "a chance for fringe players to prove themselves" route. The like of Winks, Doherty, Dele have had countless "chances to shine" and failed miserable every time.

2. I for one am sick of the media having a right old go at Spurs at every opportunity. This game, and the potential result / performance we can all see a mile off will fuel them to negative articles for the next week or so. Even today, the Beeb have fired off a "get Kane" article, on the same day there are countless rah rah Utd articles, not papering over their cracks, but more like cementing over them.

3. Prioritising the League Cup is blind and pointless. Nuno, we ain't winning that cup. Not whilst City and Chelsea continue to take it even marginally seriously, which they will.

4. Prioritising the PL. Well, again good luck with that. We are a top 8 team at best, so what is he prioritising ?

Yet again we will all be treated to a poor, disorganised, embarrassing performance against a small European team, live on national telly, with everyone coming out of the woodwork to tell us how bad we are, how wrong Nuno got it etc, etc.

Wether Nuno likes it or not, this competition is our only real chance to shine. There are simply too many better teams in all the other competitions, whereas we are, possibly one of the two most likely teams, along with Roma, Call the Conference League what you like, but the fact is this is far and away our best chance to win something, and we seem to be blindly focusing on other routes that we are, simply not good enough to win.

I definitely don’t agree with leaving all of Sunday’s players at home, It just sends the wrong message.

Top spot in the group means you avoid an additional knock out round and are seeded. Which means come March when we likely have little else to play for other than a top 7 finish to qualify for Europe again, we would at least have a realistic chance of winning this competition.

I just have a feeling this one is going to turn out like that game in Belgium last season where we played horribly. That would leave us in a position where we would need to win all of our remaining 3 games to top the group.

Ridiculous decision. Why is it that when we are in europa/europa conference now, we must rotate 11 players in the matches, but when we were in champions league, we were able to play our best team in both the prem and CL? Same way united/city/liverpool/chelsea play their first team in both comps today

Exactly, it boils down to snobbery and us thinking this competition is beneath us - which it isn’t. Levy wants the money that comes with CL qualifying and I have no doubt that Nuno will have a bonus in his contract if we achieve that - so of course he is going to have one eye on the league.

What really annoys me is that West Ham are also playing tonight and they will likely go strong as quite rightly they want to go as far as possible in Europe - so would we actually be at a disadvantage at the weekend?

posted on 21/10/21

Our B team is pi55 poor, expect us to lose. Dunno why we bother trying to qualify for Europe if we aren't gonna take it seriously

Will be furious if we lose tonight and then the first team finds itself 2-0 down at HT on Sunday after a typical half ar5ed performance

Nuno can't win can he?

In terms of the team that will start... Gollini is decent, so no problem there.

Tanganga and Sanchez started as first 11 players this season.

A lot of people have been calling for Rodon over Dier.

Dele also started as a first 11 player and Lo Celso is on the very fringe of starting for us.

Bergwijn too once back from injury.

Gil has been impressive and there have been calls for him to play more first 11 football.

Scarlett needs minutes.

I obviously don't like wholesale changes and feel for some players, like Gil and Scarlett, who would benefit more being dropped into our first 11...

But, I'm pretty certain Nuno will have been told by Levy, the league needs to be prioritised and top 4 is the whole grail.

posted on 21/10/21

BUT we ain't gonna get top 4 are we, ridiculous to even suggest it, who comes off the bench to save the game?

well its not. he has decided that the 3 points sunday is more important, and will probably fully expect to drop points tonight. I am also fine with this. sunday is the bigger game by about 50.

any points dropped here can be rectified in our home group games.

if we are a top 8 team at best why are we currently 5th? out of interest when was the last time we didn't finish in the top 7?

Nuno has made a good decision here. we will probably lose the game but so what? its a group stage. winning your home games with the occasional away draw gets you through....

the league game is more important, firstly because we are fighting for every point in the top 6 battle, and secondly because its west ham away, and we owe them a good battering.

i dont think we tried to qualify for the europa conference league. we tried to get into the europa league, but failed so we are now in this random european conference that everyone was mocking at the start of the season, and now suddenly people want it prioritised over west ham of all games !

even if we lose today we will be in a good position in the group, having played the toughest 2 sides away from home.

Only the top side qualify to the last 16, second place have to play an additional knock out round against a Europa league drop out. Rennes have played us an Vitesse already and I expect they will win both games against the whipping boys Mura and then they have Vitesse at home after already beating them away. That would basically put a lot of pressure on us to win that final home game against them and they are no mugs, they are third favourites to win the competition behind us.

All it needed tonight was for us to take Son and/or Kane, start them on the bench but bring them on if Scarlett is having no joy

posted on 21/10/21

How many go through? Top two? If so, it doesn't even matter if we finish second as everyone is sh!te. I'm definitely happy with wholesale changes.

personally I dont want son and kane anywhere tonight apart from at home with their feet up watching the back ups run around.

if the last game becomes a must win to top the group then maybe we play them then.. at least we would be at home...

I think with where we are in the group, and after tonight we would have played the toughest two games, then we can afford to make changes ahead of what is a very busy and important week.... west ham, burnley (I expect maybe 4 or 5 changes for that ), and then Man U...........

most of the team that started v newcastle had just come back from international duty too, so happy with them getting a short break to recharge.

I believe top team only, 2nd is a play off

So by not winning the group we will have to play an extra 2 games
