Picking on individuals is difficult really after a performance like that yesterday. I mean where would you start?
----------------------------------------------------------------------
true, and robb has a point that we shouldn't judge some of the players until we get a competent manager.
i will say though that as recently as one week ago there were plenty on here happy to blame individuals - pogba can't play in a 2, he's a liability etc etc - yet now there seems almost universal agreement that the entire system, the coaching, tracking back of wide players, pressing from the front etc, that is to blame.
so scholay is right, maguire has put in three 2/10 performances (if that) in a row, yet attracts less criticism than some in the squad (see also martial vs greenwood for instance).
Maguire is probably thinking he can't bollok people when he's not helping matters himself?
Shaw however does seem a bit Marmite.
A press is simple. It is all or nothing - both personnel and effort. If he can't see it falling at the first challenge then there really is little point.

Maguire is always going to struggle against pace being a carthorse. The defence were all over the place. I can't believe Solskjaer had them playing out of the back against us. Not many teams try that. City can do it, few others.
----------------------------------------------------------------------
I really didn't understand our approach to yesterday's game considering the opposition and our available personnel.
----------------------------------------------------------------------
Which is what frustrates me about the manager. That game should have been compact and hit them on the break.
Just like the first chance Bruno missed. Ole looks confused

Maguire is clearly not fit and is a far better player than he showed yesterday.
Ole has chucked him under a bus rushing him back.
Shaw though. Fml, positionally it was quite frankly awful, every single one of our goals came from his channel. Awful performance in every area from him.
----------------------------------------------------------------------
He had a bad game, worst I've seen from him. Don't believe everything you read about him and Maguire from the more reactionery of our brethren though, they were both very good last term, and Shaw's been pretty good this season (if you pretend yesterday didn't happen, which personally I am doing anyway)
----------------------------------------------------------------------
You are only as good as your last game. If the manager was judged today on last term, no one would be calling for his head now. You really are daft.
----------------------------------------------------------------------
Just calling people daft and imbeciles isn't a replacement for good debate based on even a basic knowledge of the game, Scholay, you're a very poor poster.
'You're only as good as your last game' is a cliche that's bandied around, and probably picked up by people that watch all their football on TV and hear pundits using it. It doesn't replace proper analysis of how a player has played over the course of a season and the previous one and putting a bad game into that context. Or analysing why that player put in a bad performance as Elvis did above.
----------------------------------------------------------------------
You are the one that brought our disagreement on another thread here by having a sly dig on your initial post. Practice what you preach. These players on the whole have not pulled any trees for Manchester United players.
Maguire is the most expensive defender in this league, he has done nothing to justify this. Luke Shaw has also had, on average, a pretty inconsistent run for us since signing. If you specifically want to pick last season to judge these players, it is also well within my prerogative to tell you that " you are only as good as your last game." Try to downplay the saying all you want, we have seen many managers lose their jobs after losing like Ole lost, so a lot of truth in the saying.
true, and robb has a point that we shouldn't judge some of the players until we get a competent manager.
Absolute rubbish, and I wan this manager out. Bruno has come in and he is performing. Greenwod has performed. Cavani has performed. Some of these players are not good enough it is that simple

i was thinking more of players like sancho, or vdb. and i'd question whether some of those players you name are performing, greenwood for instance offers very little other than banging the ball into the net, and he's not quite prolific enough to rely solely on that. and personally i would say that bruno's role in a 4-2-4 is actually helping the team much, and he's not prolific enough to get away with that either.

Cavani is far better for our team shape, performance and desire than current Ronaldo.
Greenwood is an excellent prospect, he scores goals, often. But he doesn't contribute to the defence, which is fair to me. If he runs to press he won't be in the calm state necessary to be a predator.
If Paul Pogba played like how Maguire played yesterday, pundits up and down would be gunning for his head.
