Who's responsible for transfers?

If what you're saying is true, this sounds more like a procurement/requisition request put to the supply chain manager at a corporation. The request may be denied or the requested item may be substituted by the SCM as per their discretion in line with company policies.

It’s not rubbish. The Ronaldo signing was purely a commercial decision. No top manager would give him regular starts in the modern game.

When fit, Cavani would suit your system of play much better than Ronaldo.

I don’t know what it is about United and ageing CF’s? They’ve had a few since Ferguson left them with a scorched earth squad. Bizarre really when you consider how the modern game has changed.

A huge problem now for United, and one I haven’t seen mentioned on here yet, is how the recruitment of OGS’s successor is going to be hampered by the fact the new man is stuck with a goal hanger in his late thirties that he has been told has to play nearly every week for commercial reasons?

This is why there is zero possibility that Conte joins Man United in my opinion.

It's quite obvious to outsiders that Ole has little, to no say over recruitment.

"Have players such as Varane, Sancho and Ronaldo been bought without the consent of the manager?"

If he turned his nose up at those three players then he's an even bigger plonker than even I thought.

Although it would explain all his mates in the media suddenly banging on about pressing.

To try and make it out this is all Ronaldo's fault that is.

I mean you have to laugh. Ole as manager, McFred the midfield, Wan Bissaka at RB, Maguire as captain yet many grown adults have talked themselves into believing the problem in this team is Ronaldo.......

Ole seemed genuinely delighted when we got Ronaldo and whilst I certainly think it suited the owners from a commercial perspective, it also fitted in with Ole's love of United men. Are we really to believe that Ighalo, for example, wasn't an Ole signing, given his history in the Norwegian league?

So whilst the higher ups would certainly have the ability to veto transfers and may even suggest names to sign on occasion, I think Ole still has the final say.

When the signing wasn't his first choice though, that may cause issues further down the line. Like with VDB, who looks very much like someone who was suggested by someone other than Ole but would still have been okayed by the manager at the time.

Ronaldo has caused a problem. His lack of work when we don't have the ball means other players should be working 10% harder to make up for that, and they aren't.

I don't think anyone's said he's the main problem though.

It’s not just Ronaldo though, Greenwood is lazy as feck pressing and rashford aint much better, Sancho is invisible and let’s not even talk about martial.

Ronaldo presses less than Wayne and Robin talks sense but as we’re not and never have been a pressing team under Ole it’s not really an issue and distracts from the wider issues.

True enough. Then you've got a low/mid block led by McFred and you've got problems.

Complete change of formation on Saturday if it was up to me, 433, Rashford, Cavani and Sancho up top, drop Greenwood and Ronaldo and see if we get a bit more energy.

Bruno, Matic and Donny in a midfield 3, anybody? In the second half against Atalanta Bruno showed he could be more disciplined and play a deeper role.

If it sounds like changing things for the sake of it, it kind of is. Doing the same things and expecting different results isn't working.

Yeah fair, not sure I’d play Sancho though, he’s been our worst attacker, but change is merited.

Ole's team has never been a pressing team, it's only know it's being turned into a 'thing' because the media/fans need to find a way to deflect the blame of this collapse from Solskjaer.

Ronaldo has never been a hard worker out of possession in his entire career, if it's only now teams have been able to start to really exploit it then I'd say the problem is firmly in one place and it's not at his door!

If the players aren't working hard enough and only giving 90% they've got to share the blame. The manager has a responsibility to shake them out of that of course, drop the worst offenders and put a hungrier team out, but he's sticking with a team that's comfortable.

You don't ask arguably the greatest player of all time to run around like a dog, even Mourinho knew better than that.
