That’s pretty much the team I think he will start with - perhaps Skipp for Lo Celso - but if 352 is the future direction he’s gonna take then a centre back becomes a priority signing in Jan. According to the rumours De Vrij is the one Conte wants. Personally I’d like us to make a move for Mattias Ginter who is nearing the end of his contract at Monchengladbach but yeah in any case another centre back is essential which is a weird thing to say given how many we actually have at the club.

Big problem for me is Dier too slow for a back 3. Back 3 CBs need to be comfortable being drawn out wide to deal with attackers. Romeros best position as a libero is in the middle of the 3 and this is the only position Dier could play because of his lack of mobility.

You also need 3 CBs that are comfortable one on one. Dier definitely isn't. I really hope Conte doesn't make this mistake.

Rodon Romero Sanchez and Tanganga are all better choices than Dier in a back 3.

Definitely like that set up for us and that’s the midfield and forwards I’d pick too

Dier has been a constant in our failure for the last few seasons. I'm really not sure what crime Rodon has committed. It's crazy how he doesn't get ahead of Dier. But now there's no Portuguese mafia.

If Dier could pass he might get that Regista but he will be dispossessed too easily and Conte would kill him.

I can see this being the one of the first major purchases if Hojbjerg can't do it.

No way Inter could hold out for that much for him. Also, I love De Vrij but he'd compete for Romero's spot in the middle. I think I'd prefer to see Spurs go for a left footer, like Romagnoli, who would slot in ahead of Dier.

Spurs also need to put a healthy wedge in front of Inter to get Brozovic before his contract expiry.

The only reason I mentioned De Vrij is because a lot of the early rumours suggest Conte wants him, but you are right both him and Romero both prefer the central position in a back three. If it’s a left sided centre back we want maybe try again for Pau Torres. I know it was reported he didn’t want to come in the summer but neither did Conte 😂 - so who knows.

Yeah - I dunno, maybe Conte would fancy Romero at RCB. Not impossible.

The thing about Conte systems though is that each position has a clear role and he doesn't put square pegs in round holes. He wants players that fit every role. Course if he doesn't have a round peg, chances are he'll use a different system. So it's gonna be interesting to see if he does go straight to 3 at the back at Spurs, and whether he uses a deep lying playmaker when neither Hojbjerg nor Skipp is right for that role. Winks could be in theory, but he's been terrible for a long time.

He may even play Davies LCB. I'm intrigued to see what he does.

Why I think its the end of the road for Winks is that Romero is a better CM than he is. So even if we play 4 at the back, technically it would still be 3 CBs because Romero should play ahead of Winks even in advanced positions he carries more threat than Winks.

I cringe everytime I see Dier and Sanchez in a back three. Please Conte, give Rodon a chance. Wales play with a back three and he does alright for them. Anything but Dier.

i do actually think the 3 at the back and Conte football could work for Dele as a midfield scoring option.

He's the middle of the 3 for Wales I think, isn't he? With Davies on the left? Also the technical/possession demands on the centre halves for Wales will be very different to the demands on the centre halves under Conte.

Obviously happy to see him given a go, mind you

Maybe. The advanced midfielders in Conte's 3142 need to be really good at quick pass-and-move football. They need to break the lines, quickly, with passes into the strikers' feet, and then get ready to receive the layoff at pace and drive forwards and/or wide.

Alli has the engine for it, and obviously he likes to get forwards, but I question whether his quick one-/two-touch game is accurate enough. Maybe, who knows. There's obviously a player in there if Conte can bring him out, but I wonder if he's maybe more likely to compete for one of the centre forward roles

I like the look of this team... potentially

The only cause for concern is the centre backs... Romero aside...

Got a feeling that we will require a top quality centre back... Dier, Sanchez, Davies not good enough... Rodon & Tanganga sounds good in theory... but they’re unproven
