Not a bit Binky. I regret we hired him though.

I'd bet you wouldn't find many utd fans ready to admit they were wrong. Vidic says he regrets hiring him and that's fine but once hired he wasn't given a chance.
Utd then became one of the worst games to watch as a neutral. I wonder what the % of games under van gaul was 0-0 at half time. I would guess close to 100.

Moyes needed to go as the players just didn’t buy into his methods and his appointment was like a sacrifice to the gods of football to be ‘that’ guy after SAF. I do think (and I’m not saying we should, at all) if we hired this Moyes with all he’s learnt since he was at United he would have done a better job than Ole.

He should take over from Pep, and show what he can do with a top squad.

i'll bet you can't find one opposition fan on here who was saying in early 2014 that if given time moyes would be a huge success at old trafford. nor when he was flopping in spain, or taking sunderland down.

but now, of course, everyone knew it all along.

Moyes seemed like he wanted to stamp his own ‘Identity’ on the club and make a complete break from what he inherited from Fergie.

I think if he’d done that more gradually, he would have been more successful in probably his 3rd season but no one was prepared to wait that long.

Moyes tenure at the club had nothing to do with the fans

Everton and West ham are his level.

It's like saying you should have given Mark Hughes more time.

What has Moyes done since United that suggests he would be a success at a club wanting to win league titles and champions leagues?

He did a good job at Everton before joining United... and has done a good job so far at West Ham. But I don't think finishing 6th means you can handle the pressure and expectation which comes with the United job.

He probably would have done a better job than Ole if given 3 years and 450 million pounds, but bettering zero trophies isn't a huge achievement.

No Manager in the world was going to survive the first Manager post Sir Alex, so it's hard to say what he could have achieved.

Like Rio said, the club may have been to big for him initially, considering he failed to delegate. Also, a more gradual transition would have helped him immensely.

Do you regret the fact United gave him less than a year to prove himself

I regret that we didn’t sack him earlier.

…..

I disagree. I think Jose would have been perfect to take over from SAF. We would have got two years of trophies out of him and the kicked him out once he had his third season meltdown.

It’s be interesting to see how he’d cope now with one of the top teams as he must have learned a bit from that stint at United. I think he’s better suited to the level he’s at now but that was a proper baptism of fire he got taking United when he did, not just in terms of being the first one after Ferguson but inheriting a lot of players that had been there a long time too (and Van Persie, who clearly struggled with Ferguson leaving just a year after signing).

I doubt he’ll get another chance at a big club to see how he’d do though.

The references to things like "at this level" is bollox.

Management is about the ability to get the right stuff from the resources available.

David Moyes was more than likely gong to be a very good and successful manager at United. He just wasn't give time (which is an undervalued resource) and the mandate to do what he wanted.

LvG, Jose and Solksjaer were given far more latitude from the club than Moyes was. Sacking him so early was a poor decision considering the parlous state (either too old or too inexperienced) the squad was in when he took over.

Reality is that managers can sink or swim at different clubs in different situations. Moyes didn't suddenly become a bad manager, it was just a big ask at the time at United, following Fergie. Happens everywhere. Nuno isn't suddenly a clueless manager, it just wasn't the right time or place going to Spurs.

There are exceptions to this of course, Ole Solskjaer was a crap manager at Cardiff, then managed a pub league and is still a crap manager at United.

He should have never been appointed since the board never wanted him, only Fergie did. They appointed Moyes because they couldn't say no to the big man. That disaster has led to this butterfly effect of ending up with either poor or washed up managers.

Agree with most on here. Moyes should go back to United even. He still has unfinished business there.

posted on 9/11/21

Not one bit. He's a mid table manager that's superseding expectations.

Really? He was given much longer than Moyes and has failed everywhere he went after leaving City.

The antithesis of Moyes in many ways.
