My parents got an electric car last year, and they think its great, but only for shorter journeys. Public charging points are available but (at least here) not necessarily accessible, and planning journeys around them can be difficult.
So I suppose it depends how much travelling you expect to do. They have a non-electric car as a backup, which they use whenever they have long journeys to do. Don't know all that much about the electric though.
The electric price is definitely a massive boost for them.
How much are electric whips going for down under? They're still stupidly priced in the UK, and we're meant to be driving them in the next 5-10 years.

They vary and the less ‘trendy’ cars are around $30/40K but the mini is $60K. Expensive but apparently it costs as little as $10 a week to run it so probably pays for itself without petrol needed over time.

That's roughly the same price of a VW ID.3 over here, these manufacturers need to seriously get a grip with what they charge their electric cars with.

I’m sure they’ll come down in price. Are there government grants there to help bring the cost down ?

The government can grant £2.5k if you buy these particular EV's

not only the engine you have to take into account, its battery power and capacity too.
bearing in mind any repairs no matter how basic will have to be done at the manufacturers so thats where it gets pricey

7.1seconds 0-60 respectable, but still not as quick as a golf gti, around what a normal Cooper S is.
Tbh I’m just looking at zipping around Sydney with the car. I am looking to drive across Australia at some point and might do some kind of vlog about doing it in an electric car. Would be quite the journey. If there were enough charging points between Sydney and Perth which I doubt 😂

to be honest if you stick it on charge at a charging point around turn on a quick charge it will cost you between 8 and 10 quid ... not much cheaper than running a diesel

I would change to an electric car if they came down in price, there was infrastructure to charge it on my street (live in an old top floor tenement) and had a range long enough for a 6hr drive to my hometown in the Highlands.
Will need to wait quite a few years yet I imagine.

That’s the good thing about the mini battery. As it’s quite small it has a very quick charge. I like the concept of going on journeys, popping into McDonald’s for 20/30 mins while it charges and then keep doing stuff like that until I hit my distraction, not needing to worry about changing the oil or the engine overheating etc - the things you worry about with a combination engine car.
