Disappointing performance

Agree agree agree.

Just a shame it was 4-0 not 2-0 or 2-1...

Concerns about how some of the players recover from this mentally and Howe has got Newcastle fighting now too.

Much has been said about the youthful nature of this side. I think we only had about 3 players older than 24 at kickoff.

Playing Liverpool away was never going to be a walk in the park, but I guess my biggest source of disappointment today was in the older lads. We could have really done with some leadership out there from the likes of Auba, Laca and Partey.

The odd arm around the shoulder. Some words of encouragement every now and then. Maybe even an occasional bollocking directed at someone brainlessly chasing after the ball and leaving his station.

But all the 3 of them could do was sulk, curl into a ball and leave the kids to fend for themselves.

It also goes without saying that Arteta's antics didn't help. Last thing a young player in a hostile environment needs to see is his manager losing his rag.

Agree again, said the same thing whilst watching live, no leadership out there from any of the senior players. Only bit of leadership we had was at the back in terms of Ramsdale.

Another reason why Tierney should have been back in the starting 11.

I've just watched the Barca-Espanyol derby and the Barca starting lineup included :

- Two 17 yr olds either side of the striker
- a 19 yr old in midfield
- a 20 yr old alongside Pique at CB
- and a 22 yr old at RB.

But the stars of the game, as far as I'm concerned, were Busquets, Pique and Memphis Depay.

The 3 of them ran their socks off, always offering themselves in space whenever any of the 'La Masia' kids was caught in possession. Yelling out orders whenever anyone strayed out of position, and acting as a second pair of eyes.

And almost every mazy run by the two 17 year olds was met with an encouraging clap by Depay. The very same person who showed the wisdom of his years by pulling off a very convincing dive inside the box for the winner.

We do have a long way to go but if you look at the scoreline and take away the straight up self inflicted goals then it's not as far as it seems. The age of the side did make them prime for capitulation after Auba of all people made the mistake you'd expect from one of the youngsters.

I think everybody got that psd at him for that it just disrupted everything. Imagine you're the kid killing yourself trying not to make a fatal error in this massive game. And the supposedly experienced leader captain goes and psses your 45 mins gut bustin and concentration with that muppet tackle even ya 10 yr old baby bro knows not to make. I'd be mad as hell
