Villa we're terrible. Time wasting defensive formation and the kind of stuff you see from fat Sam.

Im sorry but villa were all over us? Did you watch the match?

Bar the last 10 mins villa were penned in their own half continuously. I actually thought we were excellant today bar some panicky moments last 10. The pace we played at for 75/80 mins was relentless and fair play to villa for hanging on in there as they did.

Its all great beating teams by 4 and 5 but its games like today that show what we are made of. We dug in deep and won the battle against a team that showed next to no desire to come out in the slightest, thats their perogative and fair enough.

Thats the beauty of this side. We can play the free flowing stuff and turn on the style but when teams want a scrap, we'll give them one.

i thought we played half decent and were by far the better team. Ref did not help the game flow at all. Villa were fighting hard for a point, Martinez was time wasting from the first minute which i wanna see better from a Gerrard team tbh. i felt our tempo on the ball especially first half was as good as its been in a while.

Were they fack. Only after we took the lead did they try and play.

Before that they were time wasting like anything.

Tierney was crap our pen was clear cut.

Side Note: AC Milan & Man city have identical league records so far this season.

I am not sure why people are suprised. Hr was quote negative st rangers from my understanding and I think he really liked Gérard houllier style of football. Which is mainly defend and counter.

They are still in the honey mood period where they seem to find an extra couple of gears, and actually play for their manager. Unbelievable really when they get paid so much and wouldn’t want to, but that’s modern football unfortunately!

The questions will come for Stevie when teams work out his tactics and they actually sit back, and he has to try and break teams down. It’s not easy but it’s pretty simple asking 11 men to sit behind the ball, and basically offer nothing in attack. Will be interesting how he develops his tactics when needed too.

Good win today though. 3 points and a clean sheet.

If that’s the sort of football Gerrard likes to produce I’m not sure he would be a good fit for us in the future.

I expected more really….

I think we can all appreciate that stevie would never have come to anfield and went all out, its suicide, but thats as defensive as ive seen from any team against us this season. He has some decent talent at his disposal there and as the guy above says, I expected a bit more.

Tbf I think when the op said ‘all over us’ I think he meant in a workrate/pressing sense, not that they dominated us.

Tbf to Gerrard he’s only been in the job 3 weeks. What do you expect him to do? Open up and play open, expansive football?

It shows how much respect these sort of teams give us really. Only a compliment imo. I’ll take a 1-0 win every week, as long as we are top of the pile last weekend of the season!

Jeez..give sg a break...u cant play like city and liverpool unless u have the players. Norwich play expansive lovely football...they are bottom b4 their game today and could be afterwards!!

firstly he wants to be organised and competitive and they were that, then he wants to add quality. If they play like that theyll take points off plenty away from home.

Is what it is, hard for a club like villa to go toe to toe so they gotta do what they can and they did. Fortunately we were up for it and found a way. And even if it was a penalty for them at the end i felt we deserved that luck to get away with it, deserved winners.

Villa were robbed, just like Wolves were, by a dodgy penalty decision. How was Alisson not sent off and a penalty given for the foul on Ings? It’s becoming a scandal now... all the challengers winning by gifted penalty decisions.

I won’t be bullied

It was scruffy, yes the conditions were not great, no villa were not all over us.

The referee was a disgrace. Waved off 3 pens for us before very begrudgingly awarding one for the two fouls on salah. He indulged.villas.antics all over the park but especially keeper and young time wasting.. an absolute disgrace of a show there.

After that we really looked like we shut off mentally after scoring and just playe ourselves into more and more trouble where as before it villa were all out and ready for scalping.

Another win, another clean sheet, and another goal from the world's best footballer.
I'll take that. 😉

Yeah let’s all Just ignore the Ings penalty and red card for Alisson that weren’t given. Scandalous.
