Morning After View :
Well the result was all wasn't it - and the saying "things even themselves out over a season" certainly rings true for me. Did we deserve 3 points ? Well again (for me) probably not....but for shear effort and endeavour...and with the intervention of a huge slice of luck we won. Lets face it, there's been so many games this season we coulda, shoulda, woulda won - and only drew / lost - we were due that.
So, first half we just couldn't quite get at it. Yes, we were down some key players, but those that came in did well enough but it wasn't til the 2nd half that we evened things up and it became more of a contest (IMO). :
1. Ryan Allsop. My personal MOM. Made some crucial saves to keep us in it.
2. The defence. Byrne, Curtis, Stears, Fozzie & Festy. All played well, and all had crucial moments when their endeavours kept us in it.
3. Midfield. Bird, Tommo & Knighty. All played well but IMO were often overrun and not as effective as we have seen them in other games.
4. Forwards. Plange & Baldock. Sadly could not get into the game. Isolated far too often and neither made much impact.
5. Subs. CKR, Ravel & Cashin. I've seen Cash playing in the U23's and he's always looked ok. OK he only game on for 5 mins but didnt look out of place. Ravel I thought although not especially getting into the game did make more of an impact than Plange or Baldock. And finally CKR - returned to become our talisman (once more). He just gave us a presence up front which we hadnt had all game - and of course scored the goal when the ball came to him.
So all in all a very satisfying result - which as ever gives us hope that we just might "pull it off". It was nice to see Clarkey again....but his miss showed why he never scored many goals for us.
Onwards to Stoke.....UTR

I thought we were very poor indeed first half, couldn't work out what we were trying to do. Much better second half when we started trying to get the ball to Bird's feet and play a bit of football.

We were lucky of course with the goal but yet again showed unbelievable spirit and this without some of our most influential players. I would especially single out Ebosele and Thompson. They were up against a physically intimidating team of seasoned pros but I thought both were very courageous in possession, not just trying to get rid of the ball but backing themselves in tight spots, and mostly coning out with the ball.

Kazim and Morrison both did very well in my opinion where Plange and Baldock had made no impact on the game at all, in part not their fault given the way we were playing but Baldock in particular must surely be able to offer SOMETHING: win a cheap foul, a throw-in, hold onto the ball. I'd quite like to see whether Plange could play with CKR. How long will Stretton be out?

I agree, Vidal that Baldock and Plange were hugely disappointing. Neither had much service it's true and each maybe had another excuse; Plange his lack of experience and Baldock his recent lack of game time. It would be good to know if Stretton will be available again soon but even though CKR does not yet seem to be quite his old self I still think we cannot afford to leave him out. He is very clever and clearly worries defenders. Until he came on the WBA defenders were just strolling in the park. Plange did very well agin Blackpool but they were not as good as WBA. Stoke will be another difficult game and harder to beat this time.

Rooney made the perfect substitution, Morrison put pressure on their defender, he panicked and CKR put the ball in the net.

All in all a very happy day out. UTR.

Mrs H made a good point when she saw his post match interview, she said she thought he'd lost a bit of weight / size.....didn't look quite as muscular as he did previously. Must admit I tended to agree with her. Maybe the layoff due to injury and Covid has affected him more than you would think.....?????

I thought he looked better than for a few weeks. The rumours are that he is leaving in January and we cannot afford to lose him unless we get somebody to replace him. We desperately need a physical presence up top.

Be a shame to see CKR go, I'd add not so much for his performances this season but his influence.

If he does go, the following are worth a consideration:

* Hal Robson-Kanu
* Niasse ( should he finally change his mind about joining us)
* Leonard Ulloa
* Davies (Aston Villa) - loan option, a player mentioned previously
* Delap (Man City) - loan option, linked with him previously but highly unlikely

I see David Nugent is currently a free agent and certainly fits the over 34s club created. ( But in all honesty, nah!)
