Just seen Man City open the scoring

Kane's line was drawn at his elbow. It was a joke. They use to show you the lines being drawn in but they've seemed to have stopped that and just cut to the ref giving the decision and then show you the lines after they've been set. They're not doing themselves any favours.

Anything above the legs should not be given for offside with the possible exception for the head if you are heading it towards goal

Do it by the players feet. Easy.

It’s certainly frustrating.

I know every team must think they are on the raw end of the deal, but when you look at Kane’s yesterday compared to Foden’s tonight… then look back to the Dier handball v Newcastle! Shockers

Whatever you think about the use of VAR or refereeing in general it is crystal clear that when there's doubt, almost every decision goes in City's favour.

Are the City owners that insecure that they need to bribe refs? It wouldn't surprise me

They are the best team in the league, by a distance, and don`t need to bribe referees to win the PL. If you want to see benefit of doubt, then look no further than a handful of clubs that wear a red shirt.

I can`t help thinking that the Kane offside was some form of payback, after a week of media bile about how he should have been sent off v Pool, it will be at the forefront of every referees mind, and Twatkinson saw an opportunity to `even things up` a bit, and took it.

The game is 100% bent, how else do you explain the clear inconsistencies and ridiculous decisions that we see. The refs have free reign to influence results how they seem fit, and this will continue until they are forced in front of the cameras after a game to explain their decision making.

I was looking at a still of where the lines were drawn for Kanes disallowed goal.earlier.

My understanding of the rule is that its measured from the nearest part of the body to the goal that you can score with. The line comes down from Kanes armpit, how the fack can you score a goal with that part of your body without the ball hitting the underside of your arm?

If its so close that lines need to be drawn then its onside or at least it should be.

It weren't even his armpit. They drew it halfway down his arm. If it was done by his armpit he would of been given on Load of bollox

They don't need to but they do get the dodgiest decisions go their way. It probably helps that don't really have any rivals, no one kicks up a big fuss when dodgy decisions go their way because they're not really a club anyone cares about or draws parallels with.

When a side like Liverpool win it's a slap in the face because they're at no greater advantage than say Arsenal or Spurs, they just happen to be being run better at the moment, it stokes up more resentment than City in some people.

Good work, whether that is considered to be the top of his arm or bottom of his armpit the fact is it would be handball if you scored by using it.

Clear proof that the line was drawn in the wrong position, how vital could those 2 dropped points be at the end of the season

Apart from the issue of where lines are drawn another factor to consider is the fact that that in high definition video recording there are 24 frames per second (FPS). Which raises the question as to which is the actual frame that is used?

Bear in mind that six frames either side of the frozen video frame used constitutes a quarter of a second and that will make any fractional decision even more difficult to assess correctly i.e. when the ball was played and where the forward is at that moment. It certainly will make the claim that “ a clear and obvious “ decision has been made more contentious. Benefit of the doubt should be given to the attacking team as I’m sure most fans would agree.

When one sees these questionable decisions by the officials it is difficult not to think that they are either narcissistic incompetents or outright corrupt.

That's why I think if its so close that they feel they need to draw lines to decide then the attacker should get the decision.

Apart from anything else a great goal has been wrongly chalked off which shouldn't be what the game is all about. Excellence should be rewarded

Seemingly not crystal clear at all…

Kanes looks very harsh, more similar to the Laporte one than the Foden one though.

That doesn't show anything regarding bias though?

It's doesn't show clubs being favoured by refs and VAR, only how many decisions get overturned

posted on 29/12/21

Which is being favoured by VAR surely? If we’ve had VAR intervene an equal amount of times for and against us then clearly not almost every decision goes for us.

Todays game being a case in point. We had a goal ruled out that was incredibly similar in terms of where they drew the lines to Kanes yesterday.

There are decisions even VAR can't give in a sides favour even if the ref has tried to.

Please refer to my original comment:
"Whatever you think about the use of VAR or refereeing in general it is crystal clear that when there's doubt, almost every decision goes in City's favour."

Note the word "doubt" as in it could go either way and imo while these decisions go approximately 50/50 for most clubs that is not the case for City where they tend to swing heavily in their favour

Ok so what kind of scenarios are you talking about? As this thread is about offside, which this season in particular they’ve made even more objective that subjective, in part explaining why we got one allowed and one disallowed today.

The offside rules aren't the issue I'm on about to be fair. It's more the general issues with refereeing in the prem and how VAR hasn't done enough to fix them

To be honest the offside issue is very minor and a massive improvement in the terms of decision accuracy than pre VAR. Is it perfect, no but it's better in terms of accuracy at least
