Like many I hate international football impacting on the clubs (who pay the players wages) and therefore its inevitable that I will have a negative view of this tournament.

I'm no fan of Liverpool but to lose 2 off their top players half way through the season for a tournament that most folk would regard as far less important than the Prem is ridiculous and needs looking at.
----------------------------------------------------------------------
When you buy top African players you have to accept they are going to unavailable every two years between Jan and Feb. Simple.

Back to AFCON. Glad Sky are showing it this year.

The problem has always been exposure to the tournament. No one hardly ever shows it. Next year that will change.
----------------------------------------------------------------------

The BBC used to show it. If anything, it has been closed off to more people by moving to Sky.

As you say, no team should be left at a disadvantage due to an international tournament.

https://www.skysports.com/football/news/11669/12478086/liverpool-manager-jurgen-klopp-clarifies-little-tournament-afcon-comment-it-was-ironic

Replying to a journalist on Saturday, who asked if Klopp was "relieved" they had got through a busy period with "no international break until March", Klopp laughed and replied: "I've heard that so often that there's no international break until March. In January, there's a little tournament in Africa, I just want to say, and I think Asia is playing games, too - South America as well, great, can't wait."

As much as I dislike Sandy, he is right for once.

I watched a documentary the other night, about a man attempting to climb the 15 highest mountains in the world.
I recall him saying after climbing K2, that he just had 'the little matter' of climbing Everest'.
What a disrespectful p. r1c k. 🙃

Klopp`s just a selfish mug, he just wants what`s best for Varpool and to hell with everything else. He knows he does not have the squad to compete with City and so wants every little thing to benefit his team where possible, so that it minimizes any disruption and maximizes their chances. That is where Klopp is coming from.

That doesn't make it right and could lead to the top clubs being more unlikely to want African players which hardly helps the continental to get more football recognition.

If a club have a choice between signing 2 evenly matched players but one is going to disappear for a few weeks in Jan and the other isn't then it's a no brainer.

Obviously the likes of Mane and Salah don't have to worry about this but lesser players will.

It's not a no brainer. We brought Sarr on long term contract. He will be going. Franck Kessie is linked to alot of clubs. He will be going as well.

Ok because there are loads of players who are evenly matched in terms of ability, wages, transfer fees, age and experience. Good luck with that 👍🏻

Who’s disrespecting it
----------------------------------------------------------------------

Your manager for one

Jurgen Klopp calls Africa Cup of Nations a "little tournament in Africa"
----------------------------------------------------------------------

You just read the headline and fell for the out of context, typical talk sports fan 😆. Gullible
----------------------------------------------------------------------

Nah just quoting your manager. Did he or not say it was a small tournament. Deal with it fella.

You lot are so insular.
----------------------------------------------------------------------

I was waiting for the Liverpool baiting from Sandy to start ….not missed this

Now the Tottenham board will descend into Sandy v Liverpool again

Sandy, if you had read the report where that headline came from you would realise it was not what Klopp meant at all…..it was a tongue in cheek remark

Like saying there is just a little hill over there and pointing at Everest
----------------------------------------------------------------------

He may have wanted it to be construed as a tongue in cheek remark, but he will 100 per cent want to keep his African players through the very busy January period. Deep down he is fuming he has to release them.

And no it won`t descend into a Sandy v Liverpool again, not from me anyway. I cannot help it if they are so precious, they jump on every little thing that is supposedly construed as ante-Liverpool. They give it out big time, but anything said against Liverpool, however justified, and they swarm all over it likes flies to shiiiiiite.

Not my fault they are such a sensitive lot. Any other set of supporters you can have a reasonable discussion with, not that lot though, they are so blinkered to their own club, you dare not critisise them at all for fear of upsetting them.

Why would making a big deal about it matter? Is the product that sh.t it needs talked up? You know all the massive empty stadiums it will feel just like lockdown again. Sounds like AFCON have sold out to the biggest bidder rather than wider coverage?

Pretty sure in the past Eurosport and ch4 have had the rights and shown every game?

This year Sky showing all games and the beeb 10. They can punt Wright to talk it up or is he too 'big'?
