NEVER doubted him for a second vdv,I couldn't understand it either. What I do doubt though is whether we are yet firing on all cylinders. With the results like 3-1 Shamrock and 1-2 Wigan I felt they should have been wider margins than that. I think we'll get there in a little while. If we can get a two goal win at Newcastle I'll be convinced we're on top form. I wanted a wider margin today.
Was he not at fault for the arsenal goal? Good finish by him but it was a handball
Something tells me by your username you would defend VDV even if he got sent off. Oh wait, that's already happened. Even then, should have happened today for a second yellow with the celebration
His game isn't very suited for the premier league, but his mentality and technique do make up for this. Sometimes he looks out of place because he isn't very fast or physically strong enough, i think. Great player and you better keep a strong hold on him. He will win you games and turn matches around.
The Ref was very close and the commentator said that he was right not to give a hand ball. To me he's right to be in the team and we should work around him.
I reckon we could have you on the 16th..
His quality is obvious, as obvious as the fact he's not a winger
hope he plays rm his next spurs game
VDV is so awesome he could play in goal with a blindfold on and still beat Newcastle.. on his own
He left Walker with no protection!... especially with the Arsenal goal
Jonas will have him in his pocket
You're missing the point, any criticism of VDV has always been when he is picked up front. I cant remember anyone ever saying he shouldnt be in the team.
Other than the goal did VDV play ?
He is nearly, but not quite, good enough to be a player that we ought to build a team around. Which makes things quite tricky.
Basically, he is a bit too slow, and lacks the positional discipline to make up for that. He'll get picked as long as he's scoring, but when he goes through a dry patch we'll all be moaning about the weaknesses in other parts of his game, just as happened last season.
His left-footed flick at Defoe's (?) excellent low, hard cross also wound me up. That should have been hit full-blooded with his right, into the roof of the net.
Still, how many perfect players are there out there? Glad he's ours.
Plus, I don't think VDV is 'Arry's biggest problem now. I think he really wants to play BOTH Sandro and Parker, but that raises questions about Modric, and Defoe, before we even think about VDV.
The only place i see for VDV is as a striker next to Ade. His goal was fantastic but even then he was in a strikers position. VDV on the right tends to drift in too much and i believe this has a negative impact on Modric's game. VDV needs to fight it out with Defoe for a place.
Apparently Defoe was in a one to one with their keeper and didn't score.........again. Unless Defoe does something soon I don't think that he should enter the equation. Let's see if he maintains this early season form. For me VDV is far more effective and we should search for another striker in January.
don't get me wrong, the boy can play,gr8 take and finish for his goal..
but as i feared when i see the line up,let walker/himself down with his woeful attempt at defending for the goal...
he can be very effective from that right flank, but not when we under a spell of pressure.
thobi-tbf fair,it was a more than decent save, but your right, the dtriker shld score those, same with adeybayours one on one,but again, top save.
VDV had a good game offensively!
Defending wise his positional awareness was terrible, gave Walker no cover! he is a great player no doubt but for me is not a right midfielder
Adebayor missed more than Defoe did if you wanna be critical of strikers
I like VDV but only as a second striker, or whatever you wanna call it. On the right he just isn't good defensively.
Just glad Walker was playing as he was well equipped to chase back and do two jobs!
If Charlie was playing we would have been in trouble
End of the day we played a little average but WON!
Modric had a stinker
was awful yesterday
surprised we won tbh, we didnt play well and not many players stood out for us in midfield and attack
defence done a great job though
<pincers>
1st half was a terrible! but the 2nd half we really came out and looked sharp!
Adey was obviously affected by the chanting from the Arsenal fans
i think, given the extra body he gave us in the middle,he'll start playing sandro and 60's parker together more and more....
thats key thou for me,we now beat a 'top' side whilst not being at our best, when in the past,to beat them we had to be BANG on it....

Hope all you VDV doubters are convinced now
