Deathloop
I began playing this with high expectations. The game got a lot of praise upon release and has great scores on metacritic, etc.
For me, however, it falls under this weird roof that Bethesda-published games seem to have: I find the interface and the combat gameplay / mechanics to be SHOCKING and befitting of a late-90s PC title.
When the game is something like Elder Scrolls or Fallout, I can totally accept it, as they're far-reaching, huge RPGs. It makes sense that they cannot have detailed and complex combat systems.
When the game is something like Deathloop (an quasi-FPS), though, there is absolutely no excuse.
The game is not huge; it's not bustling with a thousand other ideas; the whole concept of its existence is to be a crazy, fun, rung & gun, shooter.
As far as I am aware, Bethesda is a publishing house, and not the developer. So why is it that countless Bethesda games use this same interface and style of combat? Further, how has it not been updated for two decades!?
It is instances like this that leave me totally apathetic to MS's acquisition of Zenimax, as I will not miss these games or these interfaces at all.
I will, however, forever hold a soft spot in my heart for my beloved Doom <3
I’ve been an Apex Legends guy since it came out, but now gonna switch from the battle royals to Grand Turismo 7. Cannot wait…
Just need to get a PS5
Great rundown Rooney! Gutted to hear about Deathloop, that's been on my list of games to play because of the hype around it but maybe I'll hold fire (no pun intended) for a bit
Loads of people have rave things to say about it, Groggy, so please don’t let my personal views deter you. As I say, it’s that Bethesda interface / combat that I can’t stand - it just feels so cheap / dated to me.
So, I’ve bought Cyberpunk from the store (£20!) as I’ve heard the PS5 update is out and fixes a tonne of the previous bugs and issues. Hopefully it’s good!! Will do a rundown after I’ve finished.
Need to finish it in 7 days, in time for Elden Ring, and finish that in a couple of weeks in time for GT7, Stringer!!!
Hmmm, may look like I’m gonna have to settle for another PS4. Sony defo messed up the launch of this.
Probably the worst I’ve ever known it.
Stringer, have you tried setting up the alerts that someone was talking about on here (Simon and Amiga, I think)?
There’s a site that emails you when they come in stock at myriad different retailers
I’ve done the pre-order at Curry’s. which is a lottery who they pick. Haven’t heard a thing. Then just researching, maybe it’s still a bit soon to get a PS5. I’m old school, so I never go 1st generation, so maybe another year with the PS4 is the way to go.
No way I’m going outside today, that wind sounds nasty.
I went with Amazon and got one on launch day. I was able to get my mate one a month or two later from there, as well. Definitely worth a shot!
I know what you mean re 1st gen, but I haven’t had any issues whatsoever with mine, yet. Fingers crossed!!
Great write up Rooney, like Groggy I am a little disappointed with what you said about Deathloop, but at the same time fully understand because even go as far back as Thief it's a game I "should" line but for some reason don't get on with and even more recently with Dishonored - it's a game I should really like but doesn't really hold my interest for some reason.
Personally I have been playing RDR2 on the PS5 which I know I am super late to, but what a game. And honestly for me it's often the hunting and fishing game as I really enjoy doing that stuff and just love the world.
Last game I finished and I feel is a bit of a sleeper and great redemption story is Days Gone, was put off by the initial trailers/WE stuff and then by the atrocious launch, but a few years later and after everything has been fixed it a very enjoyable action game with some neat resource management sections. An amazing sound track and very impressive visuals complete the package. Average story for sure but bike traversal and the overall areas and hordes are amazing. If you have this on PS+ or the PS5 pack I would advise a play great game that took a little while to fix but once done is a solid and fun play.
PC wise it's same old, Warzone with my buddies and Civ 6 when I want some single player. Tried Humankind which is pretty nice, but again a game that needs some balancing, but one of the best 4xs in recent history.
Stringer buddy some info, as I am constantly finding it weird that Sony for some reason is constantly getting blamed for a worldwide electronics shortages and retailers inabilities to not sell to bots. Neither are down to Sony and numbers wise it's there most successful launch to date - and no it's not as half as bad as the PS3 launch and the Xbone launches that were truly horrendous - everybody I know who has put a tiny bit of footwork in has gotten a PS5 in less than a month.
Hmm, I’m giving Sony a hard time I suppose.
Yeh, I mean this is the hardest I’ve ever known it.
Sure I forgot the PS3 debacle, but I was on PS2 for 2 or 3 years after anyway. So always found it easy, it’s just my hand has been forced. Only 2 times have I had a machine break on me, and this is the 2nd time.
But, yeh, guess gonna have to go the extra mile.
I just hope I get it in time for the Grand Turismo 7 launch.

Think it’s ok to post here. The Double Toasted guys Uncharted review. Man this film getting destroyed.
I’ve never played the game, except for on time I shared with a friend, and it was a Train scene. Think that’s the 1st one, can’t remember.
Any of you like this game?
Yeh enjoyed all of the games, and ironically they are probably one of the closest to movie games we have. It is basically a modern Indiana Jones that you control and all the games were beautiful when they were released on their respective platforms, not the tightest gameplay but a solid overall package. If you have PS+ from the last year I am pretty certain one of the games was a freebie (I want to say the remaster package). For me theyre basically the game version of a Rock/Ryan Reynolds film.

Come on stringer you can do, I have faith you can get one of these black and white behemoths before GT comes out. Also some older games are so much better. Come on do it for yourself, you deserve a present
Time to make a couple phone calls.
Call in some favours.
Hmm, though some of these ious might have an expiry date,…well give it a shot anyway, see what happens, will keep you posted, in the saga of Stinger and the Raiders of the lost PS5.
Yes that right, I can’t spell my own username….
Totally agree on RDR2, Simon. Absolute masterpiece of a game! Stunning in every department: size, length, graphics, gameplay, attention to detail, mini-games and side quests, I could go on.
It’s one of those games that you can totally and utterly appreciate that it must have taken YEARS to develop, even with a huge team and a huge budget.
I remember when my first horse sadly lost it’s short life and, later that day, I was on the phone to my mum and told her that *horse’s name* had died…
I named the horse after my missus, and gave my mum quite the shock 😂😂
To make it EVEN BETTER, there is a South Park episode that is largely based on it. That’s a win by anyone’s standards.
I also played Days Gone a couple months back (I believe on your recommendation?) and agree it’s a great game that got far, far too much stick.
Cyberpunk has started very promisingly, with some great shooting mechanics and an interesting world, so far. I’m only about 30 mins in, but it’s look decent!
Bought that at launch Rooney but found it so buggy, however good thing is it's soo cheap now I might grab it on the PS5 too to have it on the TV, Nd apparently the patch from Monday has fixed lots of it

RDR2 is an amazing game, I've owned it since launch, yet I've still not got even 25% into the campaign. As good as it is, its never given me "can't wait to get back on it" vibes and I really don't know why, as like I say its absolutely amazing. I tend to put it on once a month, do bits, then not bother again for a while. Yet I'll spend 5 days a week playing DayZ, the most frustrating, glitchy game in my entire collection
I think good quality games are just wasted on an idiot like me
Champers, I think what you’re experiencing is relatively common - I bought it on launch and didn’t get into it, then picked it back up on a rainy day months and months later, and became hooked.
I gave my PS4 to my bro when I got my PS5, and he said the exact same - couldn’t get into it.
I think the thing about it is - as ‘grown ups’ - it is rare that we get several hours at once to put into a game (my recent experiences excluded!). We have other commitments and maybe only get an hour here and there.
RDR2 is a game that requires a minimum of two hours per session, for me, to really immerse yourself into it. When you don’t have that time, or don’t want to commit that time from the offset, you elect to play other games.
Spider-Man is the polar opposite. You can jump into that whether you have five minutes or five hours
Can't you just reload your gun in San Andreas by switching weapon then switching back again?
I think that feature is even in GTA V.
I've been playing Master of Orion II. It popped up on my YouTube feed, saw it was £0.71 on Steam so I thought I'd give it a go.
It's only a quarter of a century old.

Phew, glad it's not just me then and yeah, I think since my kids came along, I've altered the way I game entirely.
Hasn't helped that I bought a gaming PC last month so I've now left myself open to a whole new world of pointless time fillers. All that time I could have been ploughing into Red Dead, and I'll spend an entire evening getting lost in Euro Truck Simulator 2
It's good in a way though, as I smashed GTA 5 to death on release and after finishing it in a week I was left feeling a bit 'meh', not at the game itself which I still love, but that I'd not paced myself a bit and seen all it had to offer properly along the way. Playing RDR2 the way I am doing means I'm kind of seeing it all at a steady pace, a bit like watching a TV series.
Oh no! Not another idiot who just wonders around in DayZ for 6 hours, accomplishes nothing and dies to an upset stomach from drinking too quickly
Welcome to the club also Champers - my PC is my pride and joy.
After buggy DayZ and their ilk I would certainly suggest grabbing some of your favourite games and modding them to the hilt - you haven't played Skyrim until you have exploding chickens in it!

DayZ is my absolute pride and joy mate, I've never loved and hated anything in equal measure like this before. Who doesn't want to spend 14 hours on a weekend walking miles with various car parts only to end up glitching under the map and die 3 minutes after successfully getting the engine running?
Yeah, modding is my primary reason for finally giving into my desire to cross over to PC. I'll be honest and say I haven't played Skyrim at all yet but its definitely on the list once I'm finally comfortable with mouse and keyboard controls. Haven't used keys to play games since I had a Commodore 64 so it's taking a bit of getting used to
