Trent is incredible at that. Though he’s probably cost Liverpool as many in dodgy defending

posted on 17/2/22

Lets hope he can overtake that scuum bag Giggs.

Don't think he's cost Liverpool 40+ goals in 150 games 😂

Cost them more than any other member of that defense!

Bit unreasonable to expect him to hit 10+ a season for the next 10 seasons I feel. I think he could best Fabregas record though. If he ends up as a mf in time maybe but still think Giggs numbers are too much

didnt gigs play until like 36? something trent could do too, which would give him 13 more years?

I think he played until he was 40 or thereabouts. So yeah Arnold has time on his side if he stays in the league and has a long career.

holes in his game are often ignoring the role he plays though. When he is back he usually defends well and has had numerous solid defensive performances. Its rare hes required to be so deep defensively, usually vs ur bayerns psg city etc.

Also cost us goals? sure its possible to catch him far up but thats the risk we take, same as the high line def part of the system. Hes saved us plenty of times as last man/back post defending too people choose to ignore that though just to say hes got flaws in his game i guess?

Fergie was their for the whole time, Don’t think Klopp will be at Liverpool too much longer, which could see a big change in the way the team sets up & attacks

hes had some bad performances too, where hes just been lazy or switched off.

Lazy is harsh. There have been times when he has been careless in possession but I've never thought it's laziness.
----------------------------------------------------------------------
guess could rather say, slow to get back, spot the danger? but again the system its far more complicated than just that. And tbf at 23... he can improve like everyone that age especially in the def area and probably will.

trents fairly quick but not reliant on speed so if he looks after himself no serious injuries i reckon he'd have a good chance of playing well into his 30s. Probably not at fullback certainly in a system like this, hes no james milner fitness wise? maybe slot into mf role deep lying playmaker or something.

i think without klopp hes still gonna play similar, and probably take most set pieces.

his games always evolving, recently hes been taking up midfield roles from rb, they work with him a lot on stuff like that. He probably deserves a lot more credit than he gets for what the average person misses with that side of his game.

I think lots of the defending criticism is harsh. He clearly is told to get high up the pitch as one of the main sources of goals, and the team is shaped to compensate when he is out of position. Klopps knows getting caught in position it's a weakness 100% but he is smart enough to know the positives clearly outweigh the negatives. Risky but shows lots of faith in the team. A rb being where he is automatically is a headache for most opponents. Maybe trent isn't the best conventional rb and this plays to his strengths. Maybe he is a OK rb defensively but Klopps just sees it as a waste of a useful weapon.

Take a brave coach to come in after Klopps and abort his role at rb. Times change for sure and maybe he will evolve into cm though. I see that most likely.

His delivery reminds me of, and is the best from an English player since, Beckham. Like Beckham I can see him play in a more advanced role but even if he doesn't or if the system changes and Klopp goes, he'll still be on set piece duty you would think, and he's too good for his place in the team to be under threat any time soon.

I like you Baz but that opinion shows an absolutely horrid understanding of the role he asked to play and you say it a lot.

Keep going if you want but it's pretty clueless and makes you look a bit silly imo. He's no Maldini but he's not even close to being as bad as you make out, again and again and again.

What Trent is doing is ridiculous, but Giggs’ longevity playing under Fergie was also ridiculous so it’d be surprising if Trent could surpass his record. He’ll smash the assists record for defenders in the prem, no doubt.

He’s a phenomenon but yeah won’t pass Giggs. Bobby’s point is a good one too as Klopp will leave and things could change.

Yeah, that’s why I mentioned Fergie in my post. Giggs played in a title challenging team for almost 20 seasons, obviously not playing every game of course.

It’ll be interesting to see who replaces Klopp and how they used TAA as well. But I guess even if he doesn’t have Giggs’s longevity in a team consistently at the top level, he could just go mental and start posting insane numbers for like the next five years or something to break the record.
