Hi Alison, sorry for the misspelling last time.
Well yes, I'm 76 with two heart operations.
My brother in law has Ms.
There are a million like that.
I don't see why there choice is staying at home or chancing dying from it.
----------------------------------------------------------------------
Before covid did you see your choice as staying at home or dying?
----------------------------------------------------------------------
No, it was carrying on with life as I knew it.
Without restrictions cinéma, théâtre, bars, football grounds ! become a place of risk
----------------------------------------------------------------------
And a few months ago, your fear was a completely valid fear backed up by statistics of a disease killing people in high numbers, especially those that are in a vulnerable position.
But the statistics aren't there to back that up anymore. The risk of going out and living your life are the same now that they've been in years previous.
Just because we are more aware of a risk doesn't mean it hasn't always existed unfortunately.
Sorry Alison, going out again, we are on holiday with grandkids until the weekend.
But I will look at the new figures tonight and will post then.
I hope you are right

I know you don't rate the Guardian, and it's true this is an opinion piece. I haven't time to read it, but I guess she doesn't agree with you

Appreciate you sharing this article.
"“Living with Covid” also requires tackling the fact many sick workers can’t afford to isolate."
Totally agree this is an issue and something I've mentioned before, statutory sick pay must be increased to make staying home when unwell more feasible for many. Don't make the mistake of thinking I agree with everything the government is doing as that is a long way from the truth.
It's a good well written article but agenda is all about bashing the Tory party, which if you agree with it is all well and good and frankly they deserve to be hammered for many things recently...
But what this article fails to explain is why covid should continue to be treated any differently to other illnesses now that it is no more of a threat.
"Simultaneously ending free tests along with the requirement to isolate will naturally discourage people from checking if that new cough is Covid"
If you are unwell, you should stay home regardless of whether or not its covid. People will get ill, test and it be negative and then go out despite that fact than even a cold could make the wrong person seriously ill. In the months gone by it was vital to know whether or not that cough is covid, but now covid is no more risky than other respiratory viruses in circulation so why should we spend billions identifying these cases over any other illness? Could that money not be better spent elsewhere?
Covid doesn't need to be treated differently to other illnesses anymore. Immunity in the community is very high, the disease caused by the virus is far less dangerous than it used to be, and treatments for those that do become seriously ill are readily available.
The common theme I seem to see from people that follow the Guardian etc or those that lean to the left side of the political spectrum believe interventionist government is the way forward, this is where I entirely agree. Personal responsibility should always be paramount whenever possible.

Raining so back early.
Today's figures are 12000 in hospital and 165 daily deaths.
I'm aware though that many die with rather than of, still, its not nothing
But I hope you are right and we can act normally, life is better that way.
I've a feeling there will be another surge though. Good debate, thanks.

165 daily deaths in winter really isn't abnormally high for a respiratory infection though, as I've hopefully proven before.
I think context is most important here, but I don't discount at all how you personally would feel about it.
All the best!
