Yeah just search Sydney shark attack on twitter. Didn't even know about it til I saw this article.
I'm totally fascinated by sharks so whilst I totally get the points the OP is making, I can't say I'm disappointed this was captured on camera. Sorry and that.
tbh honest it's quite a tame video
worst ones i've seen are the mexican cartel ones
they are truly horrific and show the depths of human behaviour

Yeah they'll test your limits for sure. Incredibly brutal.
I've only ever seen one video that was too much for me that I had to turn it off before the end and it was back in the heyday of rotten.com, it was a girl being set upon by another group of girls and it was like watching a pack of wild dogs. Still don't fully know why it bothered me so much but I think it was probably that I never assumed women could be quite so barbaric, as I've seen many similar male videos of the same kind of thing before and barely batted an eyelid.

they are worse than any horror movie
the gruesome human sacrifice practices of the aztecs has been passed down to their descendants
First shark fatality in Sydney for 60 years and the victim was opposed to nets being set up to protect the public as he thought that the wildlife would suffer more.
And about to marry his Aussie sweetheart, really hard read never mind a watch.
Rip fella 🙏
The worst video I ever saw was on Ogrish I think. It was the remains of someone who had been run over by a train and his face was flattened.
I also watched this documentary about this guy who was obsessed with bears (called the Grizzly man, deffo worth a watch). He and his Gf lived in the woods in the US and for some unearthly reason he and the bears lived in peaceful coexistence for years until one day a mean bear that I think he had always marked as trouble attacked him and his Gf while the camera was still on and killed them both. Apparently the audio that exists of the attack is so bad it’s never been released and exists in a safe in the local police station. The police arrived on the scene and found the girlfriends scalp and the bear eating the rest of her.
I just don’t get it. I genuinely have absolutely zero interest in watching someone’s life end. Or someone get tortured or beaten. Why is it fun watching someone who is likely terrified live out a nightmare situation? I can’t get my head around it at all.
In general though OP I agree - it baffles me why people go to beautiful places or gigs or anything like this and watch it all on their phone because they’re recording the damn thing. Put it away and just experience it ffs.

I don’t think anyone thinks it’s fun. It’s just weirdly fascinating (for lack of a better word) to see something happen to someone else that would be the very worst thing to happen to us. The Victorians used to be obsessed with death. I think it’s always been a part of the human psyche for better or worse.

I don't think anyone finds it fun, but bloodlust is obviously a part of human nature as many people will try and catch a glimpse of a road traffic accident or watch an attack happen whilst out on a night out.

I think you can rent it on YouTube but not sure if it’s on English streaming services. Made by Werner Herzog so is class. Plus you get to see actual bear fights.
It’s just an instinct to record something that isn’t normal.
I was driving home a week ago and was held up by an abandoned car in a ball of flames, in broad daylight, on the main road, for no reason. So I pulled over and recorded it. Of course knowing my luck the car exploded 1 second before I hit the record button so I missed the best part
