Do the dungeons Mike, that’s what I did to get better. Some of the nearby ones aren’t too bad at the start. The horse guy is the easiest yet (if you have a bow and arrow or ranged magic). Just jump on the big slab ruin nearby and he can’t hit you. Cheating, but fack it games hard enough

I'm up to about level 25 from around 7/8 hours of playing time.

Still enjoying it but a bit stuck. Die from 1/2 hits from Godrick so was trying to explore to find other areas but not sure where to head. The caelid area also seems too high level

Any suggestions? Am I missing something?

No, it’s hard as hell. You can cheat if you want, there’s a Boulder that spawns in the north of Caelid right beside a rest point, you can dodge it for 2k runes each time, to level up. Also make sure you use the ashes spirits they help. I’d try and do all the early local dungeons

Been playing a bit here and there. Impressions: facking massive, impressively so. It’s an incredible piece of work (both in the metaphorical it kills you a lot,, and technologically). It’s up there as one of the best games I’ve played.

Some tips I’ve found that make it easier.
- explore a lot, go far you’ll find nice stuff, just don’t go with loads of runes you could invest with
- find the place in Far East Caelid where you can easily farm a Boulder that tries to kill you for 2k each time by dodging
- invest in sorcery, started as a strength guy and it’s hard. But when I got a 3 rock Boulder spell and levelled up int, bosses became a fair bit easier.,done anyway. Don’t need to learn the attack patterns so much just keep distance and spam it.

When you think you’ve covered a lot of the place it ppps up more surprises it’s honestly brutally hard but one of the best ever.

I will say, ds3 was amazing, but this is a way above so far. It’s brilliant

I need a facking PS5

Yeah so do I.

Works very well on ps4, though but you’ll probably ignore my advice

Nah just not gonna buy it on PS4. It needs to be played on PS5, need Demon Souls remastered as well.

The biggest difference, aside the size in this game is there’s not a set path, like in ds3, you literally can go anywhere, and pretty quickly too, and sometimes to your cost. The scope is incredible.

Ps5 would do it far more justice, but I can honestly say I’ve seen no issues on ps4, not any slow down or freeze at all..they’ve really nailed this

How far are you in now, Baz / Mike? Ran into anything unassailable yet?

I’m sure I read before release that the story takes approximately 40 hours…total BALLS! That must’ve been without any exploration whatsoever and a set guide of the appropriate path.

I beat Radahn without any summons at the weekend, which has reaffirmed my confidence in my abilities 😂

That must be absolutely bollox as I’ve played around 15 hours and I don’t even know what the story is yet 😂

I’m sure I read somewhere someone speed ran it in 28 mins. Took me atleast twice that to beat some bosses

I’ve been cheating a bit using cheesey farming techniques to level up, and have got some mental sword that’s power is a huge swath of flame abd a massive beam of light- it destroys things left right and centre but is slow to fire. That sword isn’t too hard to get if anyone wants to k ow where, but you need decent int and faith to use it.

Sounds like you are father ahead than me, I’m not even sure where to find that guy, but if it’s the one I’m thinking off that’s impressive to do it like that.

Found that sorcery really helps with bosses, especially the rock spell thing where it fires 3 honing rocks.

At the moment I’m exploring the lake section. Miles away from completion but it’s up there with all time favorite games so far.

I have a thing about playing them all with melee only builds and avoiding archery and magic. Currently, I’ve had to use a range once: a cross bow to kill the magic turtle on the side of a tree (wow…that was a sentence).

Radahn is once you’ve cleared about 3/4s of Caelid. There’s a couple of extra sections in Caelid that are complete BS. It’s very difficult to know what order to do things in - even a lot of the guides are incomplete, missing our huge sections and messing about with the order.

I’m currently of the view that the set piece sections - the legacy dungeons etc. - are class and what I wanted from the game, but that the open world is sparse and a bit bland a lot of the time.

By that mantra, I think the game didn’t need to be open world at all, and should have followed the quasi-linear setting of the others.

There are still some fantastic parts of the open world - Caelid being my favourite so far, although it’s brutal and the music gives me panic attacks 😂😂😂

After giving it some thought, my favourite open world games (Oblivion, RDR2, GTAs) all have something that Elden Ring doesn’t, and I think it’s an essential aspect of making open world games work: LIFE.

I think you need myriad NPCs and side quests and story lines to make open world games work. So you’re captivated when checking out this dungeon; trying to find out what happened to this guy’s wife; going on a bounty hunt for some one or some thing.

It opens up the world to you piece by piece with reason and purpose. In Elden Ring, I go to every part of the map because I want to check it out and see what’s there, but there’s often very little reward for doing so.

The pieces they’ve obviously focussed on - Stormveil castle, the Royal Academy, the other few fortresses and castles - are awesome

How’s everyone doing. Just resoec’d my guy, I think I spread it too much with quite even points in most stuff, ie dex and int and it was a bit jack of all trades and master if none, which made the game even harder. Now I’m going heavy on faith/arcane, so I can use those devastating attacks available, with around 33 dex as back up for run of the mill enemies.

Found i keep forgetting to use the weapon abilities, so not really playing the way I should be. Next up that Caelid general guy I think.

Sorry Baz, been back in the Channel Islands for a couple weeks without my PlayStation, so I haven’t touched it!! Decided to move back here last weekend, but don’t go back to the UK to collect my stuff until the 18th, so another couple weeks to last!!!

Caelid is maybe my favourite bit of the game, although scarlet rot is an absolute sl@g. You know when you get poisoned in this game, you see that it does very minimal damage and you think that Miyazaki is getting soft - then he pulls out scarlet rot which is by far and away the worst status affect (except death) I’ve ever experienced.

How far along are you now? I was on a proper roll before I left and was coming relatively close to finishing the map (I think!!).

Totally agree that you need to focus on one thing with your specing. I was boring and went strength, but as always I see these amazing lot complex builds that dual wield katanas that inflict bleed and ask myself why I never bother to do any research before betting it all on a standard bloody halberd!!!

Have you got the mimic tear ash yet?

posted on 3/4/22

I’m currently trying to beat the serpent in the volcano place. Utter bassstard even with the weapon. He only needs one chance.

I haven’t got the mimic yet, but I have been in that area might grab that next. Currently using the blood fly spell a lot. Doesn’t damage everyone that much but the main boss of the city, morgot? Killed him just using that and didn’t take a single hit in about 1 minute. he’s meant to be one of the hardest! Didn’t work on some others though, annoyingly. When it does it utterly slays. It’s the bleed damage, it’s brutal when it kicks in so can quite understand whit people rock dual samurai swords!!!

Oh mate, you’re ahead of where I was, now. I haven’t gone to Volcano Manor yet, nor have I completed the city and gotten to Morgot. I think I’d just arrived at the City and started cracking on with that, but I did all three eternal cities (I think there are three) and some other optional areas (Deeproot something or other and the lake of rot?) beforehand.

The game is absolutely massive, in fairness to FromSoft. Totally worth the £60-70 you fork out. How many hours are you on?

I have my Nintendo switch with me, so I bought Pokémon Arceus and Pokémon Brilliant Diamond to keep me going…because I am an ADULT :D
