We seem to be getting a lot of upset posters on our board like terminator, conflating the fact he’s been a good owner with what he is as a person.

----------------------------------------------------------------------

That’s the nub of this whole conversation I think Nick. I suspect it’s only Chelsea fan that will want to draw the distinction between being a good owner and a good person. It’s a bit like saying the Krays may have been a bit naughty but they were great to their mother. To most people, that’s irrelevant.

I agree the chat around risks to Chelsea as a club - bankruptcy, end of gravy train etc - is just nonsense.

Simply put, for many people Abramovich, good owner or not, isn’t worthy of your support.
----------------------------------------------------------------------
Good post again naby. Let’s watch this space. Are you off to the game? I’m playing footy then on my way to Wembley. Enjoy the game either way

Unfortunately not. I don’t get to watch many games these days. The only live football I seem to watch is my son’s team!

I’m replying to something you said, where you got something completely wrong. I’d say it was perfectly reasonable to point out you’d gotten the wrong end of the stick.

Incidentally, you do love pointing out my tendency to argue, but you’re a bit of a hypocrite for doing so. You’re constantly picking people up for what they say, do you not even realise you’re doing it?

There is a difference however between defending the integrity of the club, which has been questioned, and exhalting an owner who is really very questionable indeed. The club should be defended, absolutely. Putting the owner on a pedestal sits a lot more uncomfortably with many.
---------------------------------------------------------
Tbf it is a sad state of affairs for football when an individual like Abramovich is one of the only owners in the top division in the country where you can categorially determine through his actions for several years that he actually cares about the club he owns.

In a world of demons, which football kinda is these days, he's the devil you want in your corner. That makes it easy to defend him from a football prospective but that's wrong, he shouldn't be unique in that regard

Liverpool fans going on about “wrongdoings”!

You couldn’t make it up! Their shirt sponsor Standard Chartered have been fined for money laundering and breaking sanctions with the likes of Iran, in 2020 they were fined for breaking sanctions by giving loans to Russian Banks!

Yet the self righteous club have never walked away and distanced themselves from Standard Chartered , says it all!

posted on 27/2/22

Yep those who live in glass houses etc. The sensible thing is to not pass judgement til all the details are out. All clubs are sponsored by the likes of Nike who have their history of child/slave labour etc. Where do you start and stop with all this?

The theme I see is Roman has been a fantastic owner for us, however if any wrongdoing, dodgy dealings or anything illegal is proven then heads, his specifically, should roll and he should face the consequences.
=====
Of course the Russian gangster has been a good owner for Chelsea, very good in fact and I don't see anyone denying that. The focus is on him as an individual. The same goes for City owners who are great for the club but we all know about them and why they bought the club.

One reason both City and Chelsea owners bought said clubs is to sportswash and improve their image and that would be hard to do if they run the club into the ground. They have no choice but to be good owners. Its for their own good to begin with.
----------------------------------------------------------------------
That is a reason given. Roman made it clear when he bought us he had little interest in football in the past but had got really involved in it prior to buying us, particularly enjoying the champions league. Now that might be spin. So might other reasons, the truth is hidden in there some where.

People tend to get rich by siezing an opportunity and that tends to happen through innovation, foresight, luck of birth, hard work and even being lucky enough to be on the right place at the right time. For the life of me for example I still don't understand the popularity of bloggers and vloggers that become millionaires, but I'm old.

One thing I try and do is take a holistic view, I have read Romans claims, I have read accusations against him. He has been in the public eye, one way or another for 20 years and really doesn't have anywhere to hide, yet to date zero action has been taken against him yet others, most I've never heard of and some even richer than Roman have seen action taken against them.

Jab or no jab left or right everyone has an opinion yet the truth tends to be somewhere in between never as black and white as some try and make it.

Apologies in advance if I don't get to respond to any pushbike, I have a cup final to get to.

=====
As mentioned before, he cares because its in his own interest to do so. Other owners are genuine investors, not Russian gangsters looking to sanitise their image and control a play thing for their amusement.

All the others are in it to make money. The Oligarch is in it to help his image and to have a toy to play with both of which he cannot achieve without pumping money into the club.

Where has someone defended Roman? There’s not a single post. Everyone has said if he is guilty of wrong doing he should be punished. Really, what are you on this site for? Just to make things up and start arguments? It’s so sad, get a hobby or something

Because your level of cooperation and closeness to Putin and the Kremlin is what determines whether action is taken against you.

They simply got rid of their enemies and those who do not toe the line, this is Russia we're talking about here. Agreeable billionaires like Roman are left alone and used when needed.

So failure to take action against him doesn't mean wht you think it means. In fact, it means the opposite.

Spot on. This is such a minor issue in comparison. I said in an earlier post that I could not care less whT happens to Roman but I see a chance here that if Ukraine can hold out that Putin might actually be deposed in a coup. This is where my thoughts are.

Read Romans daughters comments today. Sure that'll go down well with Putin. Roman must've always known he was gonna have a difficult time at some stage.

Getting rich because Putin let him purchase state assets at massively under valued prices is the reason he wanted to buy a high profile foreign team on the first place

How Russians didn't call him out like the other billionaires after he ploughed billions into a foreign football team I'll never know. Now his daughter has gone in on Putin I can see roman keeping a low profile for a long time tbh.

Wouldn't say fans are scoring points. Being one of Putin 'best mates' was always going to cause an issue when stuff like this unfolds. He's been Chelsea sugar daddy for years. Putin made that possible so it's not something people will ignore, especially with the laughable attempt to get the trust to handle things top this all blows over, to distance him from things.

Rival fans mocked greenwood and united. Rival fans mocked terry when he was smashing team mates wives. Of course they will mock Chelsea owners close rapport with a lunatic! Especially as their success was funded with Russian $
