A DCFC Story

Thanks for sharing bud, let’s hope that beacons that you talk off are never diminished in these the darkest of days for the club we all love, from near on far on JA and all rams fans around the globe.

All we want is the club back on an even keel, what division means diddly squat to me at this stage.

But what this farce of season has shown is that we are one and I’m so proud of the way our manager, coaches and this group of players who have given their all in what appeared to be a lost cause but who I don’t doubt will fight till the fat lady sings.

Ram till I die 🐏πŸ’ͺ😍

Just as well you weren't a houseman this season Vidal.

Vidal, I must confess to considerable ignorance when it comes to the medical profession and the various distinctions in areas of practice. But I have always been aware of the ridiculous hours junior hospital doctors have been forced to work. I presume this is down to the health service, lack of resources, lack of personnel, whatever but the demands on doctors and nurses, especially in hospitals, seem inhumane. I can only say good on you for fighting through those early dispiriting days and overcoming the various pressures you were under. (At this point I'm wondering why you did not become a GP but that is maybe a totally different story and anyway, for all I know, acting as a hospital doctor may be a prerequisite of becoming a GP.)

I have been a bit sceptical when hearing of the adverse effect of DCFC's present woes on mental health for some people but your experience puts that into perspective. DCFC has been part of my life from the age of ten and it could well have helped me through difficult times without me realising it. I do know that liquidation would be scandalous and unbearable.

This seems a good point at which to commiserate with Heb and Mrs Heb. I have read extracts from various news outlets of Scottish origin and assume they covered your particular loss. From the quotes attributed to you both I can only marvel at your stoicism, fortitude and great spirit. Good on you both also! And best wishes for a speedy solution.

Well done vidal. As a father of a son who has recently started work in a different city and has found the "WFH" extremely tough, I can sympathise emphatically.

Nice story Vidal. Sadly I dont think "the lot" of the NHS Staff has changed since that period. Terry

Emotional stuff Vidal…. Had my dark times myself after losing a business . And the Rams surely helped me at the time as well,

And I echo everyone’s thoughts for Heb and Mrs Heb as they get themselves back on their feet .

The world can be a horrible place sometimes , never more so than the current terrible plight of Ukraine . But I’m clinging to the underlying goodness of the human soul to triumph in the end .

Football is showing it has a visible heart and soul , but as Vidal has shown it has been doing that in the background for so many over the years .

Great stuff, as ever, Vidal. Thank you for sharing

Strangely enough, in 1987, I was a (ware)houseman in the City.

I've now lived away from home for almost half my life, but Derby and the Rams have always been there for me in times of 'change'.
Maybe not 'the constant' I would have liked, but it's certainly made the boring times more interesting

In 1987 I was working in Liverpool - nuff said.

Great reminiscing Vidal - enjoyed it.

I lost contact with the Rams in the late 80s and early 90s - I was abroad on the Kibbutzes - doing what every studey leftie has to do and then before that in America feeding the capitalist west - but even so when we played soccer against the Yanks - they were quite good or rather I was quite bad.

But there was always the draw back to the Baseball Ground.

And the local knowledge of the Rams - for instance I got a discount on car hire in Malta because the owner had once met John O'Hare.........

Now my daughters fly the flag for Derby County in London, Liverpool and Birmingham respectively.

And yes, for one of them working in the NHS - some stuff hasn't changed since Vidal was a spring chick at the old Derby City...

No historical possibility of Vidal being involved in your 'escape' though

He's younger than me, so it would have been tricky.

I would have said "forward" is the term you're searching for?

Thank you, Vidal
The Rams have been in my life since 1946, though sadly not often enough in stadia.
Since living abroad, I’ve really missed all things Derbyshire. DCFC has become even more important, especially through this forum.
You are a great group of lads, and I’m lucky that you can cope with grannies.
You Rams

Cat ... I think it's our manager who copes with Grannies best?

The thing about football is that you know its going to be an emotional roller coaster so you prepare yourself for that.

As kids, you start out life with no cares so when something hits you unexpectedly, it's hard to take. Football is a great way of learning life lessons.

Football gives you the chance to expell the bad things ... I always found screaming obscenities at Peter Schmeichel very therapeutic, for example.

But it also gives you enormous highs which can see you through a week or 2 of drudgery.

That is a priceless commodity.
